Packing Up 1.0 - How are you doing it?

By JasonCole, in X-Wing

I plan to set it aside with the intention of storing it, only to realize months later that I'm never actually going to use it again, and therefore I can clear up a bit of space recycling it.

I have several starting boxes. Going to be packing them in there. Maybe some rubber bands, but part of me doesn't really care if it's disorganized. I was tempted to use one of my card boxes I won a couple years back but I can use that going forward, so there's little point in doing that.

Part of me wants to keep and store the 1.0 stuff as I spent hundreds of dollars on it. Another part of me wants to light it all on fire and be cleansed.

As my collection is not very large I plan to consolidate everything into a few quart size ziplocs and store them in my 1.0 Core boxes. Those will probably go up on my shelf with my STAW stuff (don't judge - I went through a "I have enough SW games" phase! :) )

Casual player: only play in 1-2 tournaments a year. When friends and family come over we play epic anyways.

So, the two 3-ring binders will be out on a shelf next to a cardboard box of dials.

I am going to go to more tournaments in 2.0, but I will only focus on one faction. For now.

I'll find a box for it, the coreset one should be fine.

I feel like I kinda want some longboxes for the cards, but I might keep out a few of the alt-arts in my binders.

I would think that even if you have zero use for it, you'd at least try to put it on eBay or something. Somebody would probably pay you a couple of bucks for it all?

Nope. Gonna play 1.0 forever with Imperials and Rebels. Or, for many, many years, to the point where Epic finally exists again (if that happens).

If I "convert" to 2.0 it's going to be because the material didn't exist in 1.0, like the Republic faction.

So I already put 1.0 all in its own binder and through all the tokens in their ziplock bags. I moved all the models into my new case used for carrying all 7 factions and some tools (I need to order 2.0 movement template acrylics). Started a new binder for 2.0 cards (will have app on hand instead).

Haven't figured out my Epic storage stuff yet though.

I am not sure if anyone you have checked ebay, but 1.0 stuff still sells to a degree. Why any of you would trash this stuff when it could be sold (even for a small bit) is beyond me...

Now, tokens, yes, recycle bin. But the rest? Even ship cardboards from stuff like the aces expansions has a place still...

Take stuff, open trash, empty stuff into trash, set trash on fire.

For me, it just seems like too much work setting stuff up to sell and then packaging it up. I'll happily give it to folks in my local group if they want it, but it would have to be quite valuable for me to bother with Ebay or similar.

My entire Summer has been:

-chuck stuff randomly in a box while saying "never using that again."

-have an idea to put together a list i want to try before 1.0 is over

-dig through that box, cursing past-me for lack of organization

-repeat

Well, judging from some of the posts in this thread the collectors market for this game is really going to explode in a few year's time.

Personally, I'm going to sort all my first edition cards, templates, bases, dials and tokens by type, faction etc, seal them in plastic bags along with a copy of the rules, faq and a handwritten note, lock them in a waterproof strongbox and drive out into the country.

When I'm sufficiently far from civilisation, I'll follow the path by the tumbledown stone wall to the old oak tree at the corner of the field, and take thirty paces west from it's base.

At that spot, I'll dig a hole five feet deep, place the strongbox in the hole and bury it, marking the spot with a stone from the wall.

And then I'll wait.

When 2.0 goes live next month, I'm going to take all my 1.0 cards out of their binders and fancy Star Wars sleeves and put them in basic sleeves I still have left over from when I played Lord of the Rings CCG. Those will then go in a shoebox, on a shelf in my basement, along with all the 1.0 dials and tokens and whatever else I don't use in 2.0. Then the 2.0 stuff will occupy the sleeves and binders and such that were then vacated. I'm not going to buy a whole new set of binders and sleeves and such for stuff that won't get used on a consistent basis. But I'm definitely not going to get rid of it either...at least for the most part.

I might see if there's ANY value for duplicate stuff on the secondary market, I really don't need 3 copies of 1st Ed "Horton Salm" anymore, if indeed I ever did. But that probably means that nobody else really does either...so probably just stuck in the shoebox.

I'll do some version of this. I started checking inventory. making sure I wasn't missing any cards to anything I own. after a few nights of sorting, I got through my upgrades up to crew cards. think I may just call it good and box it up as is. tokens will go in ziplocs in mass quantities. cards will stay in binders. will prob unsleeve them and reuse the sleeves as those art FFG ones don't seem to be going back into production anytime soon.

I put ship tokens, dials, pilot cards, etc that are tied to each specific ship in a ziplock bag, then put those ziplock bags in plastic grocery bags by faction. Then all the upgrade cards separated by type into stacks which are then placed into their own ziplock bags and into one grocery bag. Then all the bags got put into a box for a madcatz arcade stick that I had laying around.

It's not perfect but if I ever have the need to dig into 1.0 again I should easily be able to find what I need. I'd probably try to just print out squads rather than dig out the cards though, and the ship tokens are not well organized. Hopefully it can all just sit in the box, if 2.0 ever sees the epic ships ported that's pretty much the last holdout for 1.0

Seriously guys, X-Wing first edition time capsules.

In a couple of hundred years time the Eloi will dig one up and start a religion around it.

My group is getting together for a super epic game. Every time a ship is destroyed its cards and cardboard go into the fire pit. Its going to be glorious.

IronMan Xwing. I like this a lot.

Literally throwing it away.

I lost a lot of stuff over the years when moving. Stuff that I've had to replace on the used market. (RPGs, etc.)

I already have a box of excess 1.0 stuff. I plan to pack up everything I won't use in 2.0, probably in ziplock baggies, and fill up the excess box. Tape it closed and put it in the back of the closet.

I may want it someday. I'll only toss it if it becomes necessary.

I'm also thinking of my 3rd party and prize cards. I might save them out, and put up a little wall display, especially my 1st place Cavern Angels Zealot.

Buy that man a beer .... this is where all of my 'obsolete' collectables go

Putting it all in a shoe box and wait to see what happens with epic 2.0

And if I just never play epic OR 2.0 epic announced, it’s jettisoned. All of it but the alt arts from events I’m keeping as memorabilia.
