Initially I was just browsing Wookieepedia and I began to notice more ships have been re-Canonized than I originally thought. So I figured why not make a list of Canon Rebel and Imperial ships, and have us discuss whether they have an untapped niche in Armada, and which ships might make it into a future Wave.

The Rebels have these left:

I excluded unidentified ships and captured Imperial ships, because I don't believe for a moment that the ISD will ever be dual faction.

There's even more I didn't list, and reveals a potential issue for FFG down the road. The Rebels have 2 large and 2 small ships left that can be actually considered capital ships, while the Imperials have a plethora of options going forward.

I added links to ships that I thought might be less well known, so now let's speculate on what ships might be added to Armada! Feel free to add potential squadrons to the discussion, and the ships for the Empire I didn't list.

Theres the wingless liberty type mc80s as well.. Maybe as a medium sized ship? Dunno what role it would have.. but they should be in a cannon list.

Forgot about the wingless variant, but is there any details on how it differentiates itself from the mainline models? Less well armed but more maneuverable perhaps?

I could only find the Legends info on the MC80A, it basically says that they were of various design, and we're all converted Mon Cal cruise ships. The interesting thing I found was this little nugget, "Yet another subclass shared its design with the MC80 Liberty type Star Cruiser, without the extended wing-sections, thus cutting down on the amount of shield and tractor beam projectors as well as gun batteries. The lightened cruiser countered with an extra thruster at the rear, in place of the ventral main sensor array, that increased its maneuverability.^[10] Many of these vessels were used by the Rebel Alliance at the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY. They made up the bulk of the heavy warships, along with the MC80 Liberty type and the MC80 Home One type.^[10][11]"

So there is a good argument to be made for a more maneuverable, lighter armed version of the liberty. Possibly even as a Medium.

I would love to see a truly anti-star fighter ship.

Perhaps the first Rebel ship that can meaningfully use Disposable Capacitors?

Bizarrely enough the Lancer-class Frigate is Canon, but it jumped forward in time to become a First Order ship. I'm going to interpret this as an example of an Imperial ship too good not to be reused by the First Order, because the Lancer and Braha'tok could be an anti-squadron Wave together in the future.

The Secutor, according to the Wookiepedia entry, is basically just an extra-large Acclamator with a bridge redesign. We don't need it especially since the Secutor is just another Carrier design and I think that the existing ISD and Quasar designs fulfill that role.

This is the real issue. There just aren't many remaining canon ships with actual designs that fill roles the game needs. In that scenario, it's better to just move to either the new or old trilogy where the options for new and varied designs become much more interesting.

The Braha'tok is the only confirmed ship from the original film that we haven't seen yet. After that, it looks like most of the designs listed are entirely from either the Prequels or the Clone Wars TV show.

It's an extra large Venator actually, it has the dual bridge tower of that famous ship.

Wingless liberty- liberty on a medium base with native speed 4 and low guns shields. Make it like a big beefy cr90b..

Another Rebel flotilla? Not without a major change to the purpose of the ship. They already have a light support freighter.

Technically, the 'wingless Liberty' variant as well as Tector-class Star Destroyer were also both seen on-screen. And while the 'wingless Liberty' got enough screen time you could make a game piece of it - we really don't actually know much about the Tector-class at all, beyond the bottom of it looking a lot like an Imperial Star Destroyer with the hangar bays plated over and reactor bubble missing (which everyone notices) and that for some reason it was flying inverted vs the rest of the Imperial fleet (which doesn't seem to get as much comment).

Ideally, we'd see FFG given the ability to play with that a bit and change the top around from a typical ISD.

And I'd remind the OP of a big one he forgot. Unquestionably Empire - Darth Vader, Emperor Palpatine, and Tarkin standing on its bridge, watching the Death Star beginning construction...

Imperial Venator is my no.1 wishlist ship.

Do they need another carrier? Not so much. But it wouldn't hurt.

Do they need another broadside ship? Far more so.

what about the Tartan-class patrol cruiser you have in EaW? In that game this ship is a pure X-Wing-eating Monster

But I think its not canon, right?

It would still be a small base ship, but it is definitely too big to be a standard flotilla.

It does bring to mind an old suggestion, to add pure support ships, that were mostly a liability in combat, but that carried a new cargo upgrade. Cargo upgrades would be like mini objectives, providing potential boosts to VP, beyond the points invested in them.

Isn’t Rebel One still canon? A old refitted CIS ship with some neat repair abilities through drones.

Yes it is.

I will still put my weight behind a Rebel Quasar. It is cannon, was part of the Rebels TV show. It is a medium ship! The Rebels could use a dedicated carrier. Plus as a Reprint of an existing ship it would leave room for 2 U-Wings to rebalance the Squads.

I feel like we are just having this same discussion over and over under different (recent) post threads. So here goes. I think it is more useful to determine what is probable as opposed to possible for what capital ships FFG will eventually bring to Armada. Every single capital ship we have seen so far in the game, whether canon or not, has been utilized by that specific faction in a Star Wars movie, tv series, or (non-mod) video game covering the GCW, so it is reasonable to expect that FFG will continue this in Armada right until they make the jump to CW or ST. That removes the Marsheem, Rebel One, Lucrehulk, Secutor, and Imperial Escort Carrier.

Of the remaining ships, I do not believe we will ever see the Tector or the Wingless Liberty in the game. Armada does not need another ISD (can we all just admit the Tector shot in RotJ was just a mistake?) or a Mon Cal ship that looks strikingly similar to Home One to the layman. And even though it was in Rebels, I do not see a place for the Imperial Container Transport in Armada, which is about ship combat.

That leaves the Braha'tok/Dornean Gunship, DP20/Corellian Gunship, Imperial Support Vessel, Carrack, and the Venator. Yes please. For all of them.

Edit: Removed an opinion about including non-canon Empire at War ships because people seemed to focus on that part of the argument instead of the one above.

I'm not inherently against this BUT...

Rebels have more variety of play styles in their ships.

The Imperials slightly less so.

The Quasar is one of the few squishy Imperial ships and must be treated as such.

That doesn't change if the the Rebels have a Quasar. But if it played the same as the Imp version it wouldn't feel as special.
