Its a shortening of Or-du-nance, which in the english language can be written and IS pronounced Ord-i-nance.

In Middle English, you really didn't have standardized spellings. It's alright using whatever spelling if you're speaking Middle English or have some context where Middle English is appropriate, but when speaking Modern English in a Modern English setting, you really should use Modern English.
