Ord'nance is a contraction and military slang term in french. Look it up.

Its a shortening of Or-du-nance, which in the english language can be written and IS pronounced Ord-i-nance.

As a Napoleanic War enthusiast I encourage you to read up on that period of history. Its super interesting time which shaped the evolution of warfare and the roots of our current political climate

*Napoleonic

This topic is making me feel all nostalgic..

Is it time for the trolley problem yet?

There is one track which branches into two tracks at around the 17th century. One keeps the original meaning, one changes. Do you pull the lever?

In Middle English, you really didn't have standardized spellings. It's alright using whatever spelling if you're speaking Middle English or have some context where Middle English is appropriate, but when speaking Modern English in a Modern English setting, you really should use Modern English.
