Breach vs Lightsaber Parry!

By Desidious, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

Hi

If a weapon have breach its takes away 10 soak right?

So a jedi with 3 brawn and 2 soak armour will not benefit if he is struck by a weapon with breach... but what happens if he has parry 3 parry talent?

the total soak now is 10 but breach take away 10 soak!?

As I see it he will not benefit from brawn and armor but parry will help him deflect 5 damage from the weapon Right!?

Best Regard Desidious.

Breach (and to a lesser extent pierce) ignore damage reduction from soak.

They don't ignore damage reduction from other sources.

Parry does reduce damage inflicted, but it's not soak.

So if you have a brawn 3, armour providing soak +2, and parry 3, you can ignore only the soak 5, the damage reduction from parry can't be ignored (but the target's using strain to do it!)

Which is why - in a lightsaber fight, parry, and armour/talents which boost melee defence rather than soak, is normally far more valuable than soak.

Also dodge and sense defence. As both upgrade incoming checks increasing the odds of a miss and reducingnthe number of successes an attack will get.

That's only true if you can't get Cortosis for your armor. Sure, it's expensive and rare, but so too are lightsabers and in FaD, darn near everybody seems to get one (or more) of those.

Pcs are iconoclasts.

Well that depends honestly in one game I collected and sold all the lightsabers I took off the cold dead corpses of mooks.

I got a pretty penny for them, because volume...
