If Y-Wings are heavy then ARC-170s are heavy, in my opinion. The Y-Wings always looked like the more nimble craft, to me.

Really? You should watch those clone wars episoden again, the Y-wing has TERRIBLE maneuverability while the ARCs were used for Dodfighting all over the place

I'm in the process of rewatching the whole lot - I'm on S03E12. Both ships saw plenty of dogfights, not sure what that's got to do with it. Perhaps you can suggest a clip to watch that demonstrates what you mean?

On the attack on the Malevolence they seem pretty unmaneuverable and the ARC 170s in the later seasons like during the defense of kamino or the episode with the emp bomb were used for dogfighting/escorting Y-Wings
You could add a suicide ability to the droid fighters. I know this was a common tactic used by the CIS and is reflected in multiple episodes.
While attacking a ship, you may spend crit symbol if have 1 hull. Deal 1 damage card face down and you lose 1 hull.

So you take a hit yourself just to bypass shields with one damage? I'd remove the spend a crit restriction myself.

Well the restriction is to prevent someone from spamming 10 squads and ruthless strat themselves to 1 hull and then get 10 auto damage. It also increases the damage they can do by granting 1 damage on a crit.

I’m not sure I understand you. Spending a critic result means you lose the normal crit effect and damage, so you’re not adding any damage, you’re just bypassing shields.

But those Y-Wing's were BTL-B Y-Wing's. The more "modern" BTL-A4, BTL-S3 and BTL-A4 Longprobes seem to be pretty maneuverable in the OT.

This ability is for squads and they don't damage on crits unless they have bomber. So if the above mentioned Vulture droid were to attack a ship and they are at 1 hull and roll a crit, they can spend the crit to deal a face down and deal 1 damage to themselves. It's a kamikaze. This also increases the damage output for non-bomber squads as they get lower on health.

Aaaah, I forgot how Armada works!
Be very hard to use though, having to be at one hull. Why not say you can use it whenever you like, but you die and still only add one damage to the enemy?

If Vulture droids are cheap, like 6/7 points, you could easily take 10 and then suicide them into an ISD to kill it.

So give them the ability to change to a black anti- ship die with bomber, but the squadron is removed from play if you do. Not the right wording, but then it would be random.
