This means, if I have dorsal turret equiped, and have it facing forward, it's still a turret attack, it's just facing forward, so i still roll an additional attack die right?

No, the icon on Kavil’s card doesn’t indicate a primary attack, just the forward arc.

Also, Rules Reference states that a turret arc is a normal (front, left, right, back) arc with a turret indicator inside.

So if you put your turret indicator in the front arc, it becomes a turret arc, but it is still the front arc.
