So... Clone Wars Assault anyone?

By LeighPouse, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

So with Disney finally finishing The Clone Wars and with FFG releasing a Clone Wars themed source book for their Star Wars TTRPG it seems that the cease and desist order on the prequels that Disney had in place has been lifted.

Now I know Legion is a better setting for Clone Wars style grand battles but IA isn't meant for that anyway. It's for small covert ops, a small group with a big task and I think that the Clone Wars could definitely fit this model.

Clones and Battle Droids, Republic Commandos and Separatist Infiltrators and enough Jedi and Sith to keep us painting for years to come.

They could throw in all the different types of Clones and Droids, all the species from both sides involved in the war and even bring in some outsiders like the Night Sisters and people like Cad Bane.

Anyone else excited by this prospect? Or will it just be a Legion setting?

I don't think so, but you're good. :P

Nope, not really, Hate the whole Clone wars and prequels. the clone wars it self is a horrible concept of how it came to be, far from what i imagined when Obi-wan spoke of it in a new hope.

i always thought it would have suited an Armada type ground battle game. as it creeps into the game more (darth maul example) ill start to wind down my collection. no biggie i have lots of content to keep me satisfied

I do not understand why anyone can be against that IA could have prequel trilogy stuff.

I mean, I do not like ep VII & VIII at all but it will be great if FFG does stuff of them for IA, if that makes "happy" somebody. Being against is irrational and selfish.

So, I totally agree for prequel trilogy stuff, new trilogy stuff (although I will not buy it) and other possibilities of expanding IA (or any other game).

easy, they are bad ideas, films and a hot mess of ridiculous concepts.

IA can expand that way, though it may just end some peoples IA journey, me included. that doesn't affect anyone else but myself. so you will be fine.

That's shame, I get you, (I can't stand the prequels), but I'd love me some phase 1 and 2 clones to paint ;)

Here's my current idea/wish-list for a Clone Wars box. (This is just for fun :) ).

The Christophsis Uprising (big box)

(I chose Christophsis at random; seems like a hot spot with interesting environments that would make cool maps. I guess many other worlds could work just as well, like possibly Christophsis [exterior] AND Geonisis [interior], or something else entirely).

FIGURES:

*Empire = 6xB1 Battle Droids (2 squads of 3), 2xDroidekas, 1xAAT Battle Tank
*Scum =
4xTwi’lek Renegades (2 squads of 2; these could double as both random mercenaries and Ryloth resistance fighters)
*Rebels = 3x heroes (jedi padawan, Sullustan Demolitions Expert OR Arms Dealer [could manipulate Supply Cards and available gear], & Clone Commando [double pistol? flame thrower? Big gun?)

==>This gives a similar figure distribution to Return to Hoth

Support Wave

Scum = Mandalorian Commandos (2 figure Squad) <-- might possibly just cop out and call them Death Watch to begin with ;) Such a villain pack should sell quite well, I'd say.

Rebellion = Clone Troopers (2 figure Squad) <--because... clone troopers; this too would probably sell well.

Empire = Imperial Navy Troopers (3 figure Squad) <-- 'cause I really want them!!! Dosn't fit well with the Clone Wars, though.

Would something along these lines be fun? Better ideas? :D

None of those figures work with the Rebels/Imperials factions

New Republic/Seperatists factions would have to be created (huge headache for design team)

Scum could be retained (and would therefore get the biggest boost in terms of support, and possibly unbalance meta the most)

Do I think the figure choices are a bad idea themselves? No...

But as @Spidey NZ and other prequel dislikers will show; not everyone will be interested in what you're proposing.

Personally, I'm currently in the no camp myself. Would only be interested if its done well...

Well, I can't argue with that, really :) Good points, though.

I think the factions may not have been correctly labeled here, but I could see these being reworked a bit to come through.

All battle droid type units could go to merc (they have HKs that far predate CIS tech anyway).

Rebels could get Clones, with the assumption that they're actually old clones (Rebels touched on this already, and Tyrants of Lothal is actually giving us a hero themed on this idea).

Imperials wouldn't have much to go off of here. Tarkin maybe. I can't think of much else.

Just to clarify, m y thinking was simply that the droid army stuff fitted the Empire since they were instrumental in facilitating Palpatine's rise to power (and since they are bad guys in every film or episode they appear), but you could say the same for the Clone Troopers, really (facilitating Palpy-wise). In other words, I envisioned Battle Droids serving the Empire the same way I guess Noghri would belong to the Empire faction, if the Noghri was a thing in our game. Clone Troopers, of course, fight and die with the good guys (mostly - excluding Order 66 and Jedi hunting), so I imagined them as Rebel forces (with Rex/Nik Sant as the role model for that thinking). But yeah, it would probably be confusing and weird as a general rule.

Fair enough.

I guess Clones could also work with the Empire, if we consider that a campaign could be set in the very early Empire. Though, in-lore, I think the switch to stormtrooper armor happened pretty quickly.
