How are commandos doing in games? Are you running 2 or more? Tough for me to get over having 1 less guy compared to 5 reg troops and z 76
Are sniper commands worth it?
Many objectives have a token near your deployment that will usually go uncontested the whole game. Many people have a cheap squad to sit there for the victory tokens. I think this is how the sniper will be useful as he can contribute damage from way back while defending the token
I have (by using proxy) used a full unit with sniper and no other upgrade, its 16 more points than a full rebel trooper squad with Z-6 but I really like it. Mostly because of the Pierce and Sharpshooter that combines to great effect.
Low profile always gives them hard cover and with surges on both dice they are more elite that normal troopers.
In my games they have performed really well. Great results against speeder bikes with sharpshooter.
Vs anything in cover they are really good and pierce is 1 of the best keywords.
Have not tried any 2-man squads yet but will do it when they officaly comes out.
Edited by landoroThey haven't been released yet, so I'd guess pretty poorly.
They were available at Gencon, so all the info is out there.
I'm honestly a little leery (as an imperial player) of the possibility of Leia shooting three times and then three sniper units shooting. Seems like plenty of suppression that can go out early and slow down the empire drastically.
I've played against them once. Opponent brought two full squads with sniper rifles. It was pretty brutal against our Stormtrooper squads (it was in a 2v2 game) with each shot reliably taking out 1-2 guys. We were playing Breakthrough as the objective so the Empire was put into the rare position of being out ranged by the Rebels. We were forced to rush forward and got pretty badly mauled.
I think speeder bikes and AT-ST mortars will be pretty effective against 2 man heavy weapon teams, but against full squads you will need to risk suffering heavier casualties on the approach.
I think they are quite good, but of course their cost still requires you to play smart with them. We were playing on a city style map and the Rebel player set them up to cover several 'street' sight lines that crossed most of the board. This gave him good cover vs. my AT-ST mortar (as opposed to if he had grabbed a rooftop vantage).
I tried them for the first time last night (heh, tried Rebels for the first time!), and they worked well. I was able to get Intercept the Transmissions, so I just parked the two-man squad within range of the objective closest to my deployment zone. Each round, I was able to get line of sight on something, and every time I shot at a trooper unit it got at least one kill. Good by me.
