Should they have made Yoda and Obi-Wan crew for 2.0?

By Shadow345, in X-Wing

They have more of a point being in the game now that we have a force mechanic.

I guess they will come out eventually anyway.

Yes. Next year. Republic faction.

Tldr: no

Long answer: in the republic obi wan makes sense but Yoda has no time doing anything interesting in ships. In the gcw era neither do anything in ships.

Obi-Wan will be a pilot for the republic, just wait for the Jedi-interceptor release. :)

Yoda will be a crew for the republic probably available with the Republic epic ship so that they force you buy a pig just for a piece of meat. ?

For Rebels: definitely not Yoda as he's never off Degoba. Maybe Obi-Wan in the re-release of the Falcon.

For Republic: Obi-Wan is practically guarteed to pop up in this faction, likely as a pilot and a crew. I can't imagine them not using him here. Yoda is a little iffy. There are a couple of instances of him piloting, but I'm not convinced him being a pilot is best. Him as a crew for the Republic fits fine, though.

This is an instance where "versions" of a character could work. Ben Kenobi for Rebels as crew, and Obi-wan kenobi as a pilot in the Republic.

Yoda would basically need to be some sort of Republic command crew.

But in both instances, FFG would have to pay attention to the fluff of having characters in the game because they are Star Wars. They don't bother to add much "just because it should be in a SW-themed game."

There isn't even any reason to do that considering how Scum and Rebels both have Han Solo Gunner upgrades.

I could see Obi-Wan being added as a crew option for the Rebels where as both him and Yoda will be pilots and crew upgrades for the Republic. Battlefront 2 and Clone Wars both show Yoda piloting a fighter.

We’ll probably get them eventually. Remember that so far 2.0 is just bare bones updating stuff that was already out with the minimum needed to let us play with all our ships.

We got Palpatine crew for Imperials. I'm almost certain Yoda will be a crew for Republic, at least.

I could see them calling the Rebel’s version Ben Kenobi, though I don’t think it would be necessary.

Yoda being a counterpart to Palp could work just fine.

There’s some decent fluff to base both Yoda and Obi-Wan on that holds some gameplay potential. Yoda’s lecture on Jedi using their powers for “defense, never attack” could translate into a defensive ability. Obi-Wan in the Clone Wars was very fond of deception in his tactics. I’m not sure exactly how to work that into a Obi Pilot, but I would love it if they did.

Old Ben is one of the more interesting ones. The obvious fluff to gameplay example is his sacrifice. This makes me think of the app Galaxy of Heroes, where when Old Ben dies, his teammates get buffs. Something like that could work for an Old Ben crew card. He could act as a deterrent to destroying the ship he’s on first while also supply that ship with a Force token.

We already have something akin to that in the form of L337; sacrifice her to get a defence reroll and 'turn her' into the L337's programming configuration. I could see something similar as an option for old ben.

Obiwan in republic is just a straight-out pilot, whilst Yoda is - as @tsondaboy suggests - best suited as a Palpatine equivalent.

Ehhh, I'm really not fussed about Yoda or Obi-Wan crew cards.

Mostly for fluff reasons - unlike most other OT characters, we have a very clear accounting of exactly where they were and what they were doing for most of the relevant era for the Rebel faction. That is to say, largely nothing.

Obi-Wan was on Tatooine the whole time, up until he boarded the Millennium Falcon, flew to the Death Star helped chase and fail to catch a single TIE Fighter for a bit and then died. Yoda never left Dagobah at all.

It's not like Palpatine, where we know he got flown about the galaxy on a shuttle but don't know what he might have got up to day to day before RotJ. He liked occasionally taking an active hand in events. Who's to say he couldn't have been on a shuttle with escorts and been ambushed by Rebels? It makes a sort of sense for the character to be on a ship during a fight. It's at least possible within the constraints of the movie fiction.

Greedo probably spent some time on a ship before Han fried him. Luke was probably in the gunner's seat of the Falcon another time after ANH. Nien Nunb had probably been with the Rebellion serving on ships before RotJ. Jabba the Hutt could feasibly have been invited to Bossk's birthday party cruise on the Hound's Tooth. Darth Vader had time between movies to oversee a fight from a Decimator while his TIE was in the shop.

Yeah, obviously not everything makes total sense. Jyn Erso crew on Lando piloting the Falcon (or anyone from Rogue One doing anything with anyone not from Rogue One), for example, but Obi-Wan and Yoda are just so inactive in terms of ships and dogfights for the OT era that I really don't care about their inclusion in the game.

Unless we could get ghost Obi-Wan as a crew card. That'd be cool. Especially if he costs no points, only has a minor effect (because he's a ghost, obviously) and can only be equipped in a list that has at least one Force user or something. Idk.

And obviously Obi-Wan pilot and crew and Yoda crew should be things in the Republic faction.

Yoda in his little green LEGO ship is a certainty!

My brother-in-law bought me that set. Pretty cool build for something so small!

Yoda's little jedi starfighter is like a miniature Eta-2 Actis. I could see them shoehorning him in there. Although, I'm not sure we ever saw him use any starfighter in a battle, I'm certain he's at least somewhat competent. I don't see them doing an entire expansion based around his specific starfighter.

He does make more sense as crew, though. I think I like that better.

Obi-Wan should show up as both a pilot and a crew. I would also hope that when the Falcon is released again for Rebels that we do get an Old Ben card, hopefully with a heroic sacrifice type of mechanic as mentioned earlier. His flip could be a force ghost that gives "advice" in the form of some sort of tokens or something.

The Obi - Wan crew could come in the form of a crew card for the Royal Naboo Starfighter. As it could include Captain Panaka, C-3PO, R2D2, Anakin Skywalker, Ric Ollie and Padme Amidala. With the mix of pilots (i.e. Ollie, Padme/Anakin etc.) I agree with previous mentioned as well

Just you wait for the obligatory Jar Jar crew upgrade, hehehe.

?

Prequel Obi-Wan's pilot or crew ability should really reference the high ground or absolutes in some way. I don't know how but it should be that way.

Ghost Obi-Wan:

Rebel, Modification

Discard your Lock to regenerate all your force Charges.

Edited by Turtlewing

hands-down both are Republic characters.

Obi and Yoda did practically nothing in the original trilogy. They make no sense as rebel characters. At the absolute minimum a Force upgrade unique to Luke "Ghost of Kenobi" or "Ghost of Yoda" would work but thatd be really weird to have a character-specific unit upgrade.

Oh my god that's perfect.

I mean, it needs a 'you may' in there and the idea of him being a modification is a bit weird but yeah, that's everything I was asking for.

Yoda, sure. Obi-Wan was a prominent character in the first film of the OT, even if he did not prominently act in a space battle, a card that references his sacrifice and "becoming more powerful" bit would be cool.

"At the start of the activation phase, you may spend 1 Force token to perform a red stop maneuever. If you do, you must skip the rest of your activation and at the start of the engagment phase you may engage at I7."

Idk. Something like him stopping and waiting for Anakin to come to him, and then attacking before Anakin can. Best I could do.

Obiwan for Rebels would make a bit more sense with:

- Can only be equipped to force sensitive pilots (word this up)

- +1 Force

- Add some wording to spend a force token to fire torpedoes without a lock.

But that's.... literally what Instinctive Aim does?

You can only equip IA to Force sensitive pilots anyway, because they're the only ones who get the slot and its wording is "While you perform a special attack, you may spend one Force token to ignore the focus or lock requirement."
