Second Edition Lambda

By JJ48, in X-Wing

I saw someone point out in another thread that, though token stacking has been nerfed a bit, it's still possible to stack tokens a little bit. I figured the Lambda could help us out here and shut down token stacking once and for all!

Seriously, though, with all these ship-specific discussions, what do people think of the great, white workhorse of the Imperial fleet? Has anyone tried it out in any matches yet?

Alabaster Void Bison ... now with butt guns!

You should call that list the Ginsu, because it slices and dices.

With the Decimator defanged, the Lambda will become the staple ship in large base support and abilities.

Two arcs for Vader crew

Cheap, reinforce

Coordinate + Inquisitor crew combo

Jendon is ridiculous (see, the secret is NOT to enable ordnance because you're too dependent at shooting a specific target. Get guys that CAN lock but don't need to

Barrage Rocket guys, aggressors, the TAPs, a defender or the XG Gunboat.

Major rhymer with barrage and advanced torps is only 42...)

Is gud

When Palp was nerfed, I repainted my lambda to be rusty and damaged. (I wanted to practice rust effects)

But I think the time has come to repaint it into a glorious light grey, with a nice windowjob, and some fancy highlighting. Might even buy a second one.

It seems plausible now to field more than one in a competitive squad and not simply throw points to your opponent. In the inevitable jousting meta, a 2-die focus powered primary is going to be just s good as an unmodified shot in the K-turn round of a joust, and Lambdas maintain their extraordinary efficiency.

I think the big builds will be 2-3 spam generics and a strong ace like Vader/Rexlar, or 1 Lambda ace with 2 slightly weaker but high PS aces.

Of course, 4 Lambda spam will definitely be a thing for those with access to it.

Good call. Getting a massed lock that you just have 'in your back pocket for whenever' is nice. As you say, bomber swarms get a lot of mileage with it.

It's not a bad way of supporting TIE/x1s, but it does rather heavily telegraph a target, which can lead to a bad situation.

Jamming Beams & Slicers is a nasty combination, but at the same time, it does mean giving up damaging attacks to do it (I get that your list is primarily 'screw you, tokens!'

But the lambda is born again nasty, and the White Astral Gnu Herd could well ride again as squads.

  • The Krennic/Tarkin Road Trip is rather nice.
    • Tarkin enables occasional free locks (not totally free, because you have to have a lock you haven't spent previously in the system phase to designate a target, so Fire Control is also good)
    • Krennic gives you enhanced firepower on one other ship through optimised prototype - it now can't be on the ship he's on, but there's no longer a restriction on what ship can have it, and expose-a-card-effects hurt like heck.
  • The Grand Inquisitor plus co-ordinate is very tasty. In a pure lambda squad, you can't do reactive boosts or barrel rolls, but you can still use his ability to turn a force token into a 'full' focus token or target lock. Red action + green move means free action - making it probably more tempting for a high initiative shuttle like kagi.
  • Moff Jerjerrod giving your entire squad boost gives you the means to get boosts on your squad. You're stuck with boost + green move, but boost + bank is fine and it means you don't lose your normal action if you do this.
  • Vader is Vader. Now, he essentially restores the 'range 2 in arc' effect to jam - with the exception that if you can get into range 1 in arc, you can jam someone then auto-damage them. Pair with 0-0-0 to add insult to injury and get a free calculate to replace the force token you just spent.
