X, B, Y (2e)

By FriendofYoda, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Just played the following and it felt good, but perhaps there's room for a little tweaking.

Luke; SRef, S-Foils, Protons, Stealth Dev (89)

Braylen; Trick Shot, Col Det, Stealth Dev (60)

Evaan Verlaine; Crackshot, Proton Torps (46)

(195)

Flank with Luke and then slow roll Braylen toward the enemy with the Y r1 behind him. On first engagement you park him behind a rock and if the Y is out of range just use her focus and Braylen rolls 4-5 green dice vs each attack, with 2 rerolls each time and 1 focus token. He also throws 4 on offense as does Luke. Next round just 1 forward him onto the rock, the Y picks up a lock this round and Luke is swinging in to let loose his second torp.

Just had Braylen get shot up by a 4 ship list and took nothing until mid way through second engagement. He and the Y do enough that your opponent is left with Luke in the late game and he's pretty gross.

Thoughts?

Evaan was fun and had a nice punch for her points, but perhaps there's something else that would work aside from just lumping Biggs in. The 5 point bid on SR Luke made him incredibly good and if his stealth dev is still active late game he's hard to handle for anybody.

Im looking for a couple of ships that don't mind being in front of the enemy while Luke flanks, and with 5 die and 2 rerolls each time Braylen can even head down a swarm for a lot longer than people think. If I can get Luke vs 2-3 TIE's he's going to win more often than not.

Braylen's a tricky one, IMO.

For the exact same cost, Ten just seems straight up better to me. They're the same initiative, both have abilities that make use of stress but Ten actually gets to burn his stress. Yes, it's harder to trigger because you need to roll at least one eye in one attack or defence, but given the other mods you can potentially have available (eg. target lock) I think Ten can ultimately harder and more reliably and not have to do a blue next turn.

If you do want to run Braylen, I think he needs Advanced Sensors. He needs that focus before you pull a red maneuver.

I do like the idea of Trick Shot and Collision Detector though. And I guess that makes more sense on Braylen if you can barrel roll onto a rock and get the red focus. Activates all your abilities and essentially gives you full attacking mods. Though, of course, Braylen's ability loses out more on a four dice Trick Shot vs target lock.

I see what you're doing with Stealth Device there. Takes you up to four green dice when you're parked on an asteroid with Evaan behind you and with up to two re-rolls. Without playing it myself I'm not really in a position to tell you if that's worth it or not. It's the same price as a Shield Upgrade, and reliably blocking one additional damage might be all the good Stealth Device gets you anyway. Idk, sounds like it did work for you. Four greens on a B-Wing sounds pretty silly.

You've got the points there for R3 on Luke. Your call whether that's worth the bid or not, but it'll help you get those torps off. Given how cheap R4 and R3 are, it seems wrong to leave them off an X-Wing unless you absolutely have no other choice. I think any X-Wing running munitions would be mad not to take R3, no matter what initiative value they are.

Lastly, I'm not sure I see the value of Crack Shot on Evaan. I know she needs all the help she can get to push her 2 dice primary through, but even using it for the one time you're maybe able to get a focused, target locked range 1 shot seems like minimal returns. Especially when Expert Handling is only a point more, and gives you a much more useful benefit. Though I guess if you need to keep fuelling her ability, barrel rolls probably aren't happening on her too much either.

Why not just Trick Shot again? She's going to be following Braylen, there's always the chance she gets a shot through the same asteroid as him.

Great feedback.

Actually didn't realize that crackshot didn't work on the torps, I think expert handling will be a great benefit as the initial positioning for the first 2 engagements is so vital for this list.

A stealth device B Wing is definitely a little janky, but it's really about having a couple of ships you can put in front of the enemy to keep them busy for enough turns so that Luke can flank and get to the late game vs something I know he can beat. Ten looks great but I don't like the potential to get stuck with the stress and then you can't adv sens the next turn. I might switch him in and try it, but Braylen doesn't really want to do red moves anyway, he really wants to focus/br behind a rock, then 1 forward onto it and use his linked action again to stay stressed. Then he typically hard turns and just 3 banks to try and bump things up and Evaan gets her 2 torps off. If they go for either of them, that's great. 16hp with some great early defenses (that are basically gone by 3rd engagement), keeps them busy enough that Luke is letting his own torps go and getting 1v1 (essentially my win condition).

As for the ion turret I'm not sure, it would allow me to throw R3 on Luke and still have a great bid, but the torps give a great punch to a list that relies on getting enemy ships off the board quickly. Expert Handling on Evaan has me at a 4 point bid, I don't think R3 is worth going to 1 point, as suddenly a whole bag full of init 5's are moving after Luke and shutting off the main benefit of my SupRef. I think it's a question of Proton Torp vs Ion Cannon Turret on Evaan (the latter allowing R3 to be thrown on Luke).

Is it better than just using Biggs/Selfless Kyle/Lowh? Probably not. But it is more fun and less cookie cutter when I think we are going to see a lot of Rebel '100 pt ace' style lists with Luke/Corran.

But I'm definitely open to other options to pair with this Luke if anybody has ideas!
