Last 1.0 games - wonky metas

By JasonCole, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So for my final "go to **** 1.0" games, I'm going to get a little extra practice in with two variants of a list I've flown pretty regularly.

Both are 100 point lists, RAC and Ryad. The only difference is I sub out Palp and bring in Krennic and Rebel Captive.

RAC (62) - VI, Palpatine (or Krennic and Rebel Captive), Kylo, Engine Upgrade
Countess Ryad (38) - PTL, X7, Stealth Device

Ryad in 1.0 w/ SD and Palp means i'm rolling 4-6 green dice with a focus, evade, and Palp **if she ends up in arc of someone that can shoot her**. RAC usually slides in behind someone and kylo's a blinded pilot, then double crits them. Ryad is agile enough and low enough PS that I can effectively use her to block when I'm not lining up shots.

Removing palp means the SD doesn't last as long, but I do get that extra shield, the extra shield removal, and the extra target lock to RAC if he's in range, and anyone that opens up on RAC gets stressed (great for turning off expertise, and ruining the next turn's maneuvers, making it easier to set up fully modded shots next turn).

Thoughts?

It's a great list for the 2-ship meta, and older 3-ship builds. But how does Ryad enjoy being tokenless and out-PS'd by Major Vermeil, who also rolls 4 dice with a guaranteed result? RAC outright flops against heavy swarms, and Ryad can't kill 62 points of ship in the remaining 45 minutes of the game.

Imperials have access to the super overpowered TIE Reaper, which outright destroys most lists ever. I think you'll find that Ryad paired with multiple reapers is significantly better that RAC in all matchups, and at that point swapping Ryad for Kylo is a natural upgrade to list strength. In short, Kylo + double Reapers is better in every way, sadly.

Interesting, Kylo Silencer + double reaper? I'll give it a look.

One of the reasons I went back to this is that I've been comfortable flying a decimator for years now. My skills are a bit "rusty" to say the least, and I'm not sure I have time between now and saturday morning to learn the reaper's nuances, given that I've never put the two strikers I own on a table. Thanks for the reply though!

Edit - VI kylo w/ FCS instead of PTL/AS Kylo?

For Kylo double Reaper, you can go the full, 47 point PTL/AdvS/AdvO/FOV/AT, and a pair of Scarif Base Pilots with ISB Slicer, LWF, and Couirer Droid. Those are 26 points each, and slot in where Deadeye Rhos could have gone. Haven't tried it personally, but it seems like it'd be solid.

Given this is the end of 1e, and turrets are going to change dramatically, there are two schools of thought. One is to stop flying them, get in the practice with arc-based ships. The other is to fly your favorite old go-to lists, as a sort of sendoff. Let 1e end with among cherished friends. I don't really like Krennic/RAC unless the Optimized Prototype is shooting first. VI on Maarek or Vess (with Determination on RAC) or even Rexler Brath with VI would work. Fewer tokens, but it'll set up RAC each turn better.

Astech is probably right about the folks you'd fly against, however. Vermiel is potent, as are massed X-Wing lists.

I guess that's sort of where I'm at with this. For the most part, I'm the guy that could be relied upon to bring a Decimator to any tournament I had time to attend. I flew Kenkirk & Ryad in a regional, and did better than I thought I would (still not great).

I also just realized I've only purchased one Reaper so far, and haven't ever put it on the table. I'll probably stick w/ Palp over Krennic and Captive. Ryad w/ SD, tokens, and a palp mod is hard to squeeze damage through to.

Thanks for the feedback guys.
