Guarded Stance is a maneuver available to anyone. You can find it in the combat rules section of the book. What you are listing is a talent. You can use both the Defensive Stance talent and the Guarded Stance maneuver together if you are willing and able to use two maneuvers.

mmm k I guess there are many different ways to raise your defense guess thats why they capped it at 4, and its almost very easy to get it to 4 statically on your character. I guess thats why I dont know to much about Guarded Stance. No one has ever used it in our game (over 2 years) or needed to since it probably does not stack with cover or other moves that give you extra defense that are not static. Just with armor and specific weapons, skills, or crystals its easy to hit that 4. < probably why I've never seen anyone use it.

The Guarded Stance manoeuvre grants you Melee Defense 1 while taking cover grants Ranged Defense 1; they don't stack since they affect different Defense. And since they give you a set Defense number, they only stack with things that increase the specific Defense. So armour that has Defense 1 won't stack but a vibrosword (with Defensive 1) will.

If I'm reading it right Guarded stance also gives you a black die to any combat check you make until the end of your turn. So it hurts you as much as it helps you if you were going to attack.

I've never felt it was a worth it. Is it used a lot in your games?

My Soresu Guardian with Int 4 has Heal/Harm and the Control upgrade (recover strain). Amazing power. I can stand there using Supreme Parry/Parry 3/Reflect 3, using the defense maneuver twice to give my opponent +1-2 Setback on their attack and eat damage. Every second round, as I burn strain, I cast Heal and recover 4 strain and 4 wounds (45% chance to cast). It's effectively 20 extra strain and wounds for the guardian. And I can heal my party up to 20 wounds/strain so we can keep fighting.

Do you get to heal strain even if you have no wounds to heal? Specifically I'm thinking of my Soresu Guardian when he's used strain to Reflect or Parry and ended up with no wounds but several strain after an encounter.

Hmm, that makes the "remove one setback die" on Custom Grip rather handy, means you are then often going to be adding one to opponent's pool but not your own.

Even with Parry 3 Reflect 3, there's still a good chance to end up taking 1-4 wounds on successful attacks against you, especially if the enemy has a Lightsaber.

Yes, I know it can happen. I've been in situations where my character had no wounds but had strain damage from using reflect.

Can you use this to just heal strain, or does there have to be wounds to be healed?

Further, if you have say only 2 wounds, but three strain and your roll would have allowed up to four wounds/strain to be healed... are you limited to healing only 2 strain because that's all the wounds you had to heal?

Influence basic power can be activated multiple times. I think that might be the only one.

I stand corrected, totally forgot that.
