Mind Impulse Units and extra attacks

By numb3rc, in Dark Heresy Rules Questions

I've seen people say that a weapon controlled by a mind impulse unit gets a free attack. Where exactly is this written? I haven't seen rules for MIU-controlled weapons.

They're referring to the MIU Weapon Interface detailed on page 151 of Rogue Trader .

Ah, gotcha. Thanks!

And for that item, it just make the attack made by that weapon a Free Action, rather than it being an additional free attack (according to the devs).

So does this mean that if you use a MIU interface to attack with (even though its a free action) you cant make any other attack type actions in a round?

S.K.

Yes, since you're still making the standard attack action, which you may only make once per round.

That's... debateable. The same debate has raged over psyker powers that cost a free action only and are considered standard attacks as well. Does only a half action block another half action of the same type or can any action block a half action if it's the same? AFAIK, the rulebook doesn't state that very precisely.

Flamewar ensues.

Well, according to the new Rogue Trader errata, the free action attack from the MIU weapon still counts as the one "attack subtype" action you are allowed. The same applies for Navigator and Psyker powers, other than Free Action Navigator or Psyker powers, and in that case you can make an "attack subtype" action, but not another psyker/navigator power.

It's still a pretty good enhancement. Especially if you've been outfitted with the MIU with the Weapons MIU. +10 BS is nothing to be sneezed at. Also it makes up for mega-reload times. You can attack and use the full round for reloading your main weapon or clear a jam or any number of things. It also makes you much more mobile during a firefight. Nothing like getting off that one attack then sprinting off to cover somewhere.
