Glad to play with Glads!

By Kieran Rexer, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Hello everyone!
Since we are about to start a home tournament with eight players, I want to try something weird again.
I have never played an imperial list with only small ships, and that almost exclusively attacks at short range, so I ask you some opinions.
I emphasized the activations, of course 6, without fighters screen, maximizing the upgrades of the Gladiators, to guarantee to them greater survival and maneuverability.
I thought that going by second should help me to have the opposing ships where I need them, taking full advantage from the objectives....but still I'm not so sure about that.
In this sense, I know that Salvage Run can be a deadly trap for me, but the Dust Fields and Nav Tokens that it provides me can be a valuable resource.
Alternatively, what would you play? Intel Sweep?
Surely many players would choose Screed as Commander, but I need flexibility, so I think Thrawn can help me in different situations.

looks Terrifying!

some good stuff in here, decent firepower/ manuverbilty. I do think you will be able to use Thrawn well with this fleet for nice nav/confire combos or emergency repair etc.

some thing to think about: you can replace one nof the Glad's with a Raider to save some points, this lets you get comms net or maybe slicer tools on the Gozantis. or get at least a little bid to keep your opponent honest, at 400 points your giving away some initiative which could really hurt you if your opponents are smart. thats a good option

also xi7 isnt going to help the Arq, use DTT or something else. that Arq is only going to avrage maybe 2-3 damage a shot and after brace/evade the XI7 wont acually affect their redirect, especially since the glads are just throwing around tons of damage that they will redirect anyway. DTT is better on the Arq.

you could consider using Jerjerrod, he would save alot of points and really overkill the manuverability, although you would lose some flexibilty but you could use the points saved to get comms net on the Gozantis to give out tokens. (same apply s to screed but more Damage)

overall it looks fun! and remember you have to be Agressive! be Careful but very agressive you have to kill things quick and you need to find a good way of setting up powerful shots from at least 2-3 ships on the combat turns (luckily demo makes the 1st one easy)

Good luck!

Yes, I thought of Screed initially as a commander, but I think the attack phase is the least uncertain, so I preferred to concentrate on maneuvers and engineering, since I do not have a Squadron phase.
Although Jerry is great for maneuvers, I hate to sacrifice hull points, especially with ships that only have 5.
That's why Thrawn.
I need Thrawn for the Con Fire and Engineering, leaving me free to play the Nav commands that I need to get closer to the enemy properly.
I think in the end it will be a "hit and run" style match!

Finally, the Arquitens acts as my command ship, I do not think I will have opportunities to engage, because I think I will fly it around the field, keeping it to the limit of the long range.
The Gozantis instead will be my screens, I'm going to maneuver them in front of the Gladiators to draw some enemy fire, or create blocks, repeatedly playing Nav commands, hence the decision not to give them upgrades.
For the bid, I thought about it a lot, and actually going first would be ideal .... I'll try to do a variant of the list with a decent bid!

Ok, this is Version 2.0, and I'm pretty sure to be the first Player with this bid. In this way Gozantis can have more impact on the game, and the Flagship will be an observation ship from wich control the battlefield, staying out of troubles.

Should I go with this one?

You are bidding 18 pts at this moment. I don’t know how ppl bid in your area, but I would throw on external racks and ordnance experts. 7 pts more and you would still have a bid of 11 pts. Little guy would throw **** of a punch.

I had thought about it, in fact there is room to put some more interesting upgrades, but in this case, the Raider is just a taxi carrying around the admiral ... I prefer to keep it at a safe distance!
For the bid, in my area (northern Italy) a player in order to get the initiative play 380 low...in a store championship I saw a Rebel Fleet of 374 points!

As a person that loves taxis, I recommend the upgrade, just in case it can give you an extra tool for clean up/ deter enemy fire a little, especially since OE works vs squads which may try and hunt your admiral

JJ applies one damage, this can be to the shields if you have them, it is not applied immediately to the hull.

I see your point guys, in fact I'm trying not to forget out any details.
Regarding Jerry, most of the time I used it, it served me when the shields were already gone...but for sure is the best for quick maneuvers.
