Happy Friday - Do you recreate movie moments?

By Cubanboy, in Star Wars: Armada

Happy Friday Friends,

Well this week is coming to an end, so to spice it up time for a question?

Does anyone play out movie scenes in their local groups?

Well, the first time I ran Reikan, it played out like "Weekend at Bernies". Does that count?

We proxied an ssd the other day. I killed it with an awing.

I remake this one every time I play on Vassal:

@mcworrell and I did the high speed rogue one scenario someone put up on here and it was awesome. did the rebs get the plans, sadly yes, but that was the only ship to escape. plus one of the 2 OG ISD's (so not vader) survived. very fun game.

Somehow I don't think two ISD-Is vs only Han Solo is going to be very fun.

Battle of Endor though? That's what I'm waiting on. And now the SSD's here it's perfect to try running a BoE scenario.

Living through it was bad enough.

Nope. I play the Empire and I win.

Happy Friday!!!

No, I've never played a theme scenario.

I run dual ISDs often so I relive this at least twice a month...

Happy Friday.

I've tried to kill Han Solo using a triple Cymoon list.

He just kept on moving before the ship phase and occasionally bracing until turn 6 when I lost contact.

So I just dumped my garbage and left the area in disgust.... and so did my Star Destroyers. :D

Endor scenario way back 2015/16: 1.000 pts for 5x ISDs vs. 3x MC80, some CR90s and Nebulon-B, and looooots of squadrons. Real fun!

I am all about thematic play and replicating big and small screen battles is a lot of fun. ?

I've done more from Rebels than I have from the films as I still need FFG to produce certain ships and squadrons, or I'll just have to find them elsewhere eventually. I posted my replica of Thrawn's fleet at Atollon earlier this year.

I have some free time on Sunday. Maybe I'll post a few pics of other thematic fleets and battles I've recreated.

I want to be your friend

Not per say. But when possible I try to make up some BS about how our game is some back line/second front engagement of some other battle.

Last Monday, at the Battle of Hoth...

A relief Force of Rebel Fighters, 8 squadrons strong, supported by an MC80 heavy carrier and it's Nebulon-B escort carrier jumped out of hyperspace on a rear flank of the main Imperial Force that was in the middle of troop landing operations on the ice planet. The rebels engaged with rear guard skirmisher units of the Empire in an effort to break through their line, and then engage and distract the heavy destroyers from their blockade, and allow Rebel transports to escape all in one PRECISION STRIKE. Four Arquitten cruisers and their support group of four Gozantis cruisers, with their fighter complement of four squads of TIE/ln would break formation from the line and peel off to engage the incoming force. Sending three of the Arquittens out in an encircling manner, using the cover of asteroids and debris for cover, they would engage all at once at the same angle and pincer the MonClamari in a tightening noose, using the lead Arquitten and the Gozantis as an anchor for the trap. Fighting began quickly as the rebel fighters swarmed the first Arquitten to appear from the cover and fire from the '80 would finish her in the ensuing gunnery battle. Fighting was fierce as both sides turbolaser volleys would rip into each other time and again striking crew throughout vessels on both sides, almost to the point of attrition by intention of both fleets. The Empire held their fighters back and once the eager rebels had sprung out the TIEs were sent in and managed to down a particularly resistant X-wing group while the rest of the rebels were occupied, and then position themselves to intercept the next attack wave which would disolve into a desperate war of cat and mouse and hit and fade tactics as the fighters would spend much of the rest of the battle operating without orders from the capital ships. Due to the rushed nature of the rebel attack, a unfortunate series of miscommunications between their two vessels had left the escort carrier drifting behind the heavy carrier to long to support it's allies and the heavy carrier drifted deeper into the kill zone, and later a communication breakdown on the Heavy Carrier left the main rebel squad force behind without properly vectoring them onto the second wave of their attack plan. Capitalizing on this, the Empire quickly flew through the rebel squads and engaged in a unified front against the large MonClamari cruiser, having sacrificed two of their Gozantis before the first shots were even fired by activating their self destruct, and utilizing the concussion wave as an impromptu brake to stabilize the formation. Attacking and downing the larger ship with loth wolf pack tactics, they together disabled the rebel command structure in the process. In the end the escort Nebulon would arrive to the main fighting too late and still out of position. However her gun crew would valiantly take a second Arquitten down that was earlier damaged by the '80, as well as regroup all the fighters under her command and order the retreat to hyperspace. Also to their credit a Rebel Lancer class duo would score another squad of TIE fighters in the end bringing the Imperial casualties to a exact 50%, including half their squadrons, and half of both capital ship types, though the Command ship survived the risky position of bait. However the rebels had lost a major capital ship and a quarter of their squad force including many veteran pilots as well as a very demoralizing string of casualties as the precise gunnery of the empire proved the better, and the repetitive thunder of turbolaser fire had caused significant damage. Thus the empire won this oft unspoken portion of the Hoth invasion, and the rebel relief force never made it in time to save countless lives.

Once the SSD comes out you know every player is going to recreate this battle at least once in their Armada play life.
