Rexler Brath: A Man for All Seasons

I personally have found the 2.0 defender to be perfectly capable without double tap, and fear it might be oppressive with it and x/7 active.

I'd be happy to swap ship abilities with the Config.

I'm not unreasonable. I just want more dakka.

I'd be down for a config. But double tap in bullseye only.

I'm not too sure about this. It kinda ruins the flavor FFG intended for the ship, but I also think there can be an interesting choice with x/7 vs TIE/D.

Oh also I agree with Wiredin's suggestion above.

I've been saying that for a long time.

The flavor of the ship is why I'm dissatisfied. It supposed to be really powerful in attack. More than any similar sized ship.

8(!) laser cannons on the Elite config. I want my fourth attack die!

You have it, in the Bullseye arc.

That is insufficient. The rebels must feel the full might of the Defender.

I am likely going to try to make Vessery work with 2 Inquisitors. I like the V1, and I think could be fun with the generic Inquisitor.

As for Rexlar, I am more likely to add a non-HLC cannon to him, as he can essentially add damage once you are through the shields. A nice control option, if expensive.

Try Brath with Outmaneuver. Works on ioning Luke, disregards the moldy crow, frees up the evade against i6, and rewards good positioning.

Outmaneuver is the best imperial talent there is. Fact.

Gunboats

'Ceptors

Defenders

It's a must.

I don't know. With the big 2.0 FCS nerf you have to work just a bit for his ability. On the other hand, double modded shots are rarer these days. Then again, there's not a big gun that he's powering either. Onyx with FCS/Juke/Homing seems better for 88 points than naked Vessery.

Yup, I’m not really seeing named Defender pilots being worth their point increase over Onyx generic.

Unless you’re bringing a 2 ship list and need to sink the points somewhere anyway.

But with Onyx (Juke, FCS) you’re getting all the benefits of the great chassis, and still have enough points left to include 2 pocket Aces or beefy generics, so I’m always coming back to it..

I have been playing around with wingmates for Brath, you can fit in Scourge and whisper to make a 3 ship Int 5 build.

I can only theory craft as I have to wait until mid september like all the plebs to try it out on the table. I just dont know what to pair him up with. I was thinking some Int 1 blockers maybe, like I said...no idea yet.

The Defender needs increased firepower to represent what it is. You may betray our beloved Defender, and accept this facsimile we've been given, but my heart is true, and I could never do that.

You do realize that the tournaments he did well at that he mentions were with the old Defender? Before the titles "fixed" them? Bio kicked butt with the one ship everyone said was terrible and should never be taken. This was all BEFORE there was a /D title.

@Biophysical Good write up! Also, clever title. I hadn't really looked at Tie Defenders yet. Very clever use of the Homing Missile on Rexlar. Bullseye shots are hard to line up, but I hadn't thought about forcing someone to use an action to get out of yours. That's actually pretty good.

So Rexlar Brath is a devout and persecuted lawyer who does not support his pal Palpatine's quest to have the imperial marriage divorced?

He is now.

No, he was how that guy used to be when his old pal was remembering him, before he became so singleminded and inflexible.

I've been ranting about how awesome Defenders are for a while now. Double defenders (Double D's?) are Imperial BroBots. Slap Outmaneuver and Advanced Sensors on them and do crazy $#!+. One fun opening move: your opponent will likely be cautious, moving in slowly to try to catch you with multiple arcs (especially if they've seen what this build can do) - roll in fast on turn 1, head on at the enemy. Likely no shooting yet, but even if there is, you're Focused and Evading. Turn 2, dial in a 4k and boost with Advanced Sensors. You should end up directly behind your opponent. No mods to your dice, but you're probably in rng 1 and Outmaneuver triggers. It's basically a 6k, with no stress. From there, you're doing the boost+4k dance but also pulling normal moves when they work better.

Really, 2.0 Defenders are sick nasty ships. I love 'em. I still love my Squints more though. :)

You can do both! Rexler, Fel, and a Saber fit easy, as do Rexler and 3 Alphas.

Ah, got it. Considering the tonality of the final words, I shall say no more. I don't want to be caught up in a chessmatch against an Anglican should one happen to read this--they can't tell the difference between a bishop and a queen.

I've been looking at this a lot as well, and haven't settled on a whole squad. I do really like him in a couple test games with Soontir Fel, though, and there's a ton of stuff that Imperials have that will fit in the remaining high 40s point slot. Probably the next thing I try will be Rexler with Fel + Duchess.

Can confirm on the receiving end that Rexler, Fel, and Sabre is a paintrain if flown right. Just make sure the sabre tries to hunt down lower PS dudes and not get 1 shot by a torp

Oh yes! I plan on it! The next list I want to run is Rexler or Ryad (Adv Sensors, Outmaneuver) with Fel (Swarm Tactics) and Phennir (Trick Shot) - 198 (Brath) or 200 (Ryad) pts.

BTW, my first run with Brath, I had Juke and Homing Missiles on him and found a never really used either one, but Ryad, in that same list, had Outmaneuver and it was used repeatedly. I may have to revisit the Juke/Homer build sometime, but Outmaneuver is my go-to.

I hope you're not doing that against a Howl swarm.

Try giving Fel predator. Eventually with practice, it will often proc with the ability a lot. Swarm tactics has an immense buff thanks to I6 cap, but just by looking at the list, one can guess where Soontir hopes to be based on Turr. Soontir also needs some way to reroll now without targeting computer or old palp.

But I could be wrong. That I6 autothruster Turr is tempting.

Why not? I'm looking forward to it! LOL - that's the beauty of 2.0 - yes, a Howl swarm seems awesome, as do double Defenders, but it all boils down to flying well.
