What are the "Majors" of Armada?

By icedbecker2007, in Star Wars: Armada

Hi everyone, first time poster here. Glad to be a part of the Armada Community. I have just been playing for about two months but i love the game so far.

Golf and Tennis have tournaments that they consider Majors. My question is, What are the "Majors" of Armada? What are the four biggest tournaments of the year. I cannot make sense of the tournament scene in Armada.

Thanks

Like all FFG games,

you have local tournaments ...but the main FFG ones are:

Regionals - depends on the country how many and where

Nationals - dispite the name are not 1 per nation.. for example UK & EIRE share one

Worlds - this is run at FFG HQ in the US

Where does GenCon then rank in "prestige?"

GenCon is the US National

Ah Gotcha, I thought it was the North American Championship. My mistake then. So I guess there isn't really a "BigFour?"

Is it? I thought GenCon was equivalent to Euros, in that it sits outside the normal structure but is probably at/slightly above a Nationals.

GENCON is the North American Championship. The US National this year is at NOVA from 30 AUG to 01 SEP. Yeah, there isn't necessary a "Big 4" the way the Majors are laid out.

US Nationals is at NOVA, Gencon was NA Champs.

Anyways, the closest thing to a "Big Four" is probably some combination of Worlds, US Nationals, Canadian Nationals, UK Nationals, NA Champs, and European Champs?

And then some sort of Tier 2 consisting of other nationals, any big convention tournaments not included in the above (IE Adepticon), and the larger/most competitive regionals.

I was wrong, you had it right.

I would say Worlds, US National, Euro and whatever US regional has the highest attendance.

Vassal World Cup>all

:D

Seriously though, big four is easy when you don’t forget Vassal.

Worlds

NA

Euro

Vassal WC

I would only edit that list above to suggest the the VWC is probably #1. It's the worlds you don't have to be financially imprudent to go to!

So do I have to place well in a Store Championship / Regional in order to play Armada at NOVA, or can I just register to play in the Nationals regardless of skill level?

Never mind, I found the answer in the tournament regulations document.

Just register. You can get a bye if you win a Regionals, but that's the only benefit. There's still spot open for NOVA, so please come and enjoy. The more the merrier.

Thanks! I had previously assumed the national tournament required people to qualify people to compete somehow, like the national spelling bee. But since there's no $40,000 prize, I guess they don't have to be quite so strict. :D

I'm not sure if I can make it, I didn't take time off work or make plans for staying overnight. I'll keep it in mind though, if not this year maybe next year.

I gotta say, I love how welcoming the Armada community is.

As the First VWC Champ, I approve this Message

@JJs Juggernaut as the only Vassal and IRL World Champion, what's your thoughts?

I personally still rank the VWC below the WC.

My Majors would be WC, Euros, NA Championship, VWC.

Notable Top Tier Events but not "Majors" would be any Nationals event and Regional level events in select areas (parts of NA and Europe).

Vassal World Cup is an interesting case, because it really stands apart as the "experimental" big tournament. It highlights upcoming trends that may develop around new ships and upgrades. At the same time, it is frequently incomplete since we rarely have all the relevant cards and stats of a new release by the time it starts.

The most important is worlds, and after that I'd say Euros. The reason though is this: World's typically highlights the trends of the North American meta while Euros highlights the European meta.

thought we did last time I looked... ok thats a few years ago.... dont really play enough to bother going to tournaments....

edit - or its the fact they they dont have one, so most attend the UK national and I've just miss ID the reason......which is just as likely ?

ps text is not good at portraying tone...

You know....people going on about Vassal.....I tried that once. I don't think I've ever experienced a more frustrating, user unfriendly thing in my life. I'm glad you all enjoy it, but I guess it's not my cup of tea.

How long ago out of curiosity?

Is anyone keeping track of the Top-10 at these majors since Armada came out? If not would anyone be interested in compiling a list with me and working to preserve this information?
