Expansion?

By DVA, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Hello,

I'm playing Descent more than half a year and i'm going to buy one or more expansions.

What is the difference between the two campaign-expansions?

What's the surplus value of the other 'normal' expansions?

Thanks.

The difference between the two campaign expansions is theme, Road to Legend is more classic fantasy theme while Sea of Blood is more "piratey" if you will. There are some mechanical differences between the two of them, but honestly I think either of them would work fine for your first campaign expansion. You may want to go with Road to Legend rather than Sea of Blood simply because it has been out longer and has had most of its rules questions addressed through the FAQ. Sea of Blood's rules seem to be rather poorly written (*gasp* you're kidding?!?) and still need to have a lot of questions answered, but it isn't anything game-breaking that's unanswered right now.

As for the other expansions if you are planning on buying two I would go with Tomb of Ice and 1 of the others, that way the addition of Feats for the heroes can help balance out the addition of Treachery for the overlord. If you are only going to buy 1 vanilla expansion I would make the purchase based on who you think needs more help, if the OL wins the majority of your games, buy Tomb of Ice to help out the heroes. If the heroes beat the overlord more often than not, buy one of the other expansions as I think they add more for the overlord than Tomb of Ice does.

That's just my 2 copper anyway.
