Biome Preference or How to spend my money

I fail to understand why people would say that they would enjoy the game if it's an arctic survival but would be disappointed if it's a desert one. Are some people really that specific in their taste when purchasing a game?

Perhaps you're picking out a game for a New England Christmas party, so only the Arctic-themed games would be a thematic match. Perhaps your group is sick to death of jungle-themed games. Perhaps you nearly died on a desert island as a child and cannot play games involving deserts or islands without dredging up traumatic memories.

In general board gaming is such that one or two people in each group probably buy the bulk of the games. So here, the idea would be that each player gets a box and the game is then unique to that box. So if you game with 4+ people you would have a wider experience than just playing X-Com over and over.

For preferences, I'm in northwestern Minnesota. Forest, plains, and snow are all something I regularly "survive." Jungle, Mountains, and Islands are therefor more interesting to me. I'll play whatever I pull, but my initial preference is for something outside my personal biome.

That said, envisioning disorientation that descends into becoming stranded and lost does appeal to me. Thematically. I'd rather not actually do that. So, I'll be willing to play regardless of how it turns out.

I do envision myself trading copies or buying opened (known) copies online if I enjoy the system and desire new content.

One of the articles mention that each box will contain 2 different Biomes, so we will get variation in thematic locale even within a single box.
