Last game I took 5 ships against a very experienced player and got beaten heavily. The game before that it was a different list but got soundly beaten by my son.
Saturday night saw me take 5 ships (VSD1, 2 x GSD1s using both titles, Gozanti Cruisers, Raider1, 3 ties, Howlrunner) against my son (CR90, MC80, Nebulon B, MC30, 2 X wings, Luke Skywalker), hoping for a bit of revenge. There were obviously upgrade cards but can't recall what he had.
My son was player 1, and we played Opening Salvo.
A great game which was really in the balance. At one time I thought I'd win it, another I thought it was a big loss.
Early on (T3) we traded my Raider for his CR90 corvette (ok for me as I'm ahead on points). I use my ties to harry the MC80.
Both GSDs and the VSD had a little damage, but I managed to get the two GSD and the VSD surrounding the MC80 (which was also a little damaged), at close range. (The voice of James Earl Jones was going through my head: "I have you now!")
However, the MC80 activates first.
I thought I'd lose one ship (probably Demolisher), but with the VSD and Insidious alive, the points would be in my favour.
(His other ships are out of position and while undamaged, in no place to affect the battle).
His first shot, destroys the damaged Demolisher. Second shot destroys the slightly damaged VSD (he got exactly what he needed to destroy it. Anything else it would have survived). Its at this stage that I'm thinking 'Bugger, there goes another game'. In reply to James Earl Jones - Yeah, maybe not.
However Insidious is at the rear of the MC80 which has a downed shield, has a double arc, but is it in range? Front arc - Yes, side arc, by the width of a gnats wing its out. However now it was my turn to roll lucky and got what I needed, and the MC80 blows up.
That was turn 5.
Turn 6 we both turned away, out of range.
We totted up the points, and my lad had won by 4 points!
That makes it 2 - 1 to him. My win was a close one, his first win was large and then this 4 pointer.
I will get him next time LOL.
