That's a good point. My original thinking for pointing it out was also the inconvenience of docking in that direction. I assume ships can reverse in Star Wars, but it'd be slow I reckon, like travelling on manoeuvring thrusters only. The counter argument could be the use of tugs, or even large tractor beams. But your point is very apt.
