An idea for an Illicit slot upgrade

By Hiemfire, in X-Wing

Rigged secondary

1 charge. Change 1 missile, torpedo or cannon upgrade slot to a missile, torpedo or cannon upgrade slot. New slot cannot be the same as the slot it replaced. When an upgrade which uses the slot is used but after the attack is resolved, roll 1 attack die. On a focus result remove one charge from this card. If this card has 0 charges remaining the weapon can no longer be used.

A bit wordy, but it expands the customizability of some ships.

Changed "on a hit" to "on a focus"

I'd go on a crit, but I dig it

I was thinking crit, but 1 in 8 seemed a bit slim. Though now 3 in 8 seems a bit drastic.... I'll swap it to a focus (2 in 8 or 1 in 4).

Yeah Focus might be best! Like cloaking device

It's amusing that on a red die, you can pick subsets of results to get any odds out of 8 you need.

Or atleast close enough to work. :)

Torpedo and missile ships are probably balanced quite equally, but cannon ships are a bit different, aren't they? Right now cannons look a bit meh in 2.0 to me, so being able to run e.g. proton torps with FCS on IG-88s look like a non intended (by FFG) buff.

Then again, it would cost points, and might only work once so can be balanced.

Cannons are worthless because they cost an opportunity and usually they are worse than a primary.

Also, in the lore all the cannons are supposed fire together. You dont put more cannons on stuff to get a weaker attack.

Cannons, unlike torps and missiles, are affected by range bonuses. While I can see that being an issue with the HLC the others benefit from it nicely from the look of it.
