Would You Use Luke w/ Torps?

By j_man_04, in X-Wing Squad Lists

With Luke havings the slots for Force, Droid, and torpedos, the combo of Instictive aim, protons, and R3 makes a lot of sense. However, it's pretty dang expensive. I built this to team him with the two Two-Tubes, but I find myslef compromising a little on the other X-Wing and U-Wing build out.

Any suggesstions on keeping Luke more bare-bones to supply the others with more upgrades, or does the list below seem pretty efficent?

Luke Skywalker (62)
Instinctive Aim (2)
Proton Torpedoes (9)
R3 Astromech (3)
Servomotor S-foils (Closed) (0)

Edrio Two-Tubes (45)
Proton Torpedoes (9)
R4 Astromech (2)
Servomotor S-foils (Closed) (0)

Benthic Two-Tubes (47)
Advanced Sensors (8)
Perceptive Copilot (10)
Jyn Erso (2)
Pivot Wing (Closed) (0)

Well he doesn't need R3 astro AND Instinctive Aim, so that would save some points!

That being said, this already looks real solid

I think R3 and Instinctive Aim can help. Initially, I should have locks. But if I have to spend the lock on one attack, I can use Instinctive Aim in case I need to perform a different action. Maybe that's not frequent enough to be worth it.

Would you change the droid or the Sense?

I'd change the sense, personally. Though idk what to put in instead...

I think I'm with @Greebwahn . I want either Instinctive Aim or R3, not both. If I wanted R3 (the double TLs can go a long way on their own towards target flexibility), I think I'd take... hrm. In another list, perhaps Sense, to peak at dials. In this list, perhaps Heightened Perception to engage at Init 7. That's not a huge increase from 5 to 7, but it'd give you a 4-dice attack before anyone else can shoot. Either a Torp where you can turn a hit to a crit, or a range 1 attack following up.

With Instinctive Aim, I think I go with either R4 for better blue moves, or a regen droid. Probably R5 instead of R2, for cheapness. Discarding cards isn't as good as gaining shields, but it doesn't shut off an attack, and you don't need your action as much as other X-Wing pilots, since you'll have the force for dice mods. You'd have to drop Jyn Erso if going for a regen droid, however.

OH! I had a cool thought. Inertial Dampeners on Edrio. Benthic passes a focus, Edrio takes a TL with his ability, then he can pop Dampeners to remain at a longer range for his torpedo. At only 1 point, I think it could come in handy.

Looks like a fairly simple change to make that doesn't mess with the list too bad.

Jyn is great, but it can be tricky to know how/when to use it sinnce Edrio needs the focus first

Going in at I7 with Luke ins't a bad idea either, as I'm guessing Vader will be pretty popular early on in the game (he's in all my Imperial lists so far for 2.0)

Here's the updates:

Luke Skywalker (62)
Heightened Perception (3)
Proton Torpedoes (9)
R3 Astromech (3)

Y’all, good advice putting heightened perception on Luke.

I’ve proxied a few games against lists with Vader and Howlrunner. Getting shots off first against both has great advantages, especially Howlrunner who I have running with Juke. Forces him to use the evade token to take away Juke’s ability, which makes the two dice attack much less scary.

As for Vader, attacking first increases the chances he has to spend force tokens on defense rather than offense.
