New Player: Conversion Kits or 2.0 Expansions?

By >kkj, in X-Wing

I want to get into X-Wing 2.0, although for the most part for the models. But i saw @Crabbok s Comparison videos and i like the older, more greyish paint scheme of the TIE Advanced and TIE Fighter much more than the new more blueish ones. So i think i will buy the old expansions and a conversion kit. So my question now ist, will all the rereleased ships have the same upgrade cards that are in the conversion kit? Will there be an incentive to buy a 2.0 expansion of a ship that i already have because of new/different upgrade cards that arent in the conversion kit? If not, does this mean that FFG has basically planed out all future rereleases of existing ships and that i can get all that card content of existing ships in the conversion kit?

As i said i want the old ships (in same cases, not in all, new X-Wing for sure) but still have all the 2.0 cards.

The conversion kits includes all the content from the wave one re-release expansions (But not the content from the brand new wave one expansions such as Lando's Falcon, the Tie Reaper, and Saw's Renegades). Future rereleases may include new content, but FFG has said they will provide a way for players who already own a copy of that ship to obtain the stuff not found in the conversion kit, presumably through small baggies not unlike the ones which contain some of the new wave 1 pilots found in the conversion kit.

So the conversion kit basically contains all the ships cards, pilots, cardboard, tokens etc. for all existing 1.0 ships but only the upgradecards from 2.0 Wave I?

Conversion kits contain all future re-released material: pilot cards, upgrades, dials.

They don't contain upgrades and pilots from the core set.

They're intended for people that already have large collections, to avoid them having to re-buy ships they already own.

They contain all the pilots and upgrade cards from the wave 1 re-releases. Future waves will have new upgrades and may include new pilots (Shara Bey is almost certainly being added to the A-wing), but FFG has assured customers there will be a way for owners of 1.0 expansions to get the new pilots and upgrades from the rereleases without paying for a whole new model. This is not true for wholely new expansions like the Mining Guild Tie or Saw's Renegades, though.

It's worth noting that if you're only buying already released ships and are doing it in quantity, at MSRP once you top 10 ships it is cheaper to buy 1E ships + Conversion Kit vice 2E ships, because the blister price for small based ships bumps from $15 to $20 from 1E to 2E. At 10+ ships the conversion kit is effectively free.

I think you do not get any force cards in the conversion kits despite some old ships now force capable. The 2.0 core set has some force cards but no scum ships if you are into scum you probably buy it to have access to the force.

The small base ships (such as the punisher, k-wing, and ARC-170) making the jump to medium seem to be getting a $10 price hikes judging by the firespray and reaper. It's not clear what large ship pricing will be like since the large base expansion comes with a small base ship (Lando's Millenium Falcon is the same price as Heroes of the Resistance, though, so who knows).

To get all contents you'll need to buy 2.0 expansions unless something changes

Id say wait for the new expansions (which will have power creeped pilots and upgrades) unless you buy a used collection.

It is certainly cheaper to get 1.0 ships, a conversion kit and the core set. But the 2.0 ships will bring some upgrades that won't be in the conversion kit.

Thanks for the info, I was wondering this myself. 👍
