2.0 Vizier's Ability Question

By Boba Rick, in X-Wing Rules Questions

So I'm looking for a cheap ship that I can use for coordinating an Imperial Squad, and Vizier seems like a decent option, especially considering his ability.

My question is this: when activating his ability off his card, is the coordinate white or red? I do not have enough points to put Tactical Officer on him.

Thanks.

Page Three of the Rules Reference :

Quote

If a ship is instructed to perform an action, the action is white unless stated otherwise.

And Page Eight:

If an ability instructs a ship to coordinate, this is different than performing a [Coordinate] action. A ship that coordinates without performing the action can still perform the [Coordinate] action this round.

So no stress and, if it wasn’t for the “If you do, skip your Perform Action step” clause, you could take another action (aside from Coordinate).

FFG has dropped the phrase “free action” from everything, and that’s going to take a little getting used to.

The "no stress" part is correct, but the second part is not. The pilot ability does not instruct the ship to coordinate, it instructs to perform a coordinate action, so no second coordination in the action phase.

Not to mention, the second part of Vizier prohibits you from performing an action during the Perform Action step! Basically, Vizier gives you the option of performing your coordinate early (post-ailerons, pre-maneuver), and making it white instead of red.

Yes, we are aware of that. We were talking about that case hypothetically, see Opsmason's post: '... if it wasn't for the "If you do, skip Perform Action step" clause ...'

D’oh, thanks Ubul. I updated the original comment.

That's great, thanks!

I think this makes Vizier a really good coordinate ship, because if he can coordinate off of the Aileron that's great (white), if not then he can still stress himself if he didn't bump.

Not exactly a rules thing, but something which strikes me about Vizier is that after he uses his pilot ability, he really doesn't care if he bumps. Might be a good ship for something like Intimidation . *e* doesn't have the Talent slot

It's also very good paired with the great red dial of aileron ships. You can aileron, co-ordinate, segnor, effectively still getting your co-ordinate off when coming about.

Very useful now reapers have no white hard turn.

Yeah, Vizier seems like he's going to be a very solid support boat.

Okay, what happens if Vizier tries to do a Coordinate using his ability, but fails? He still gets his normal action after his normal move, right?

Also, if he had Composure as a talent, could he attempt to coordinate and fail, get his focus instead, then bump or whatever and be okay?

A) Yes, as it just says you skip your perform action step if you do the coordinate. You didn't do it, you don't skip your step.

B) He can't take an Elite Talent (regardless of what some sites and apps might say). But, if he could, yes that would work.
