Question about washes

By Piratical Moustache, in Star Wars: Armada Painting and Modification

Is there a easy way to apply Nuln oil, and how do you clean up messy panels? I have a Victory project that I've stalled on because I haven't been able to clean up panels without leaving brushstrokes.

Now my Victory looks sloppy which really sucks since the airbrush work was so well done.

Mix with water and a brush dip of liquid soap. Quality brushes do help, but try using the side of damp brush to roll across the panel to get a cleaner look.

Use a thin tip brush. Also a q- tip helps to clean the edges as you go. I put mine on straight from the bottle. Slow steady strokes. Followed by cleanup.

I should also mention, take note of the humidity. If the air is dry and water to slow the dry time, especially on the larger ships. If it is high, you can use it straight, with a few sips of water for cleaning.

I have also found that it is best to rinse and dry your brush as you go, then use the brush to pull the wash out of areas where it pools, for re distribution. Keep doing this until it starts to set up, or you end up with 1 or two areas that are too dark.

Ok, so what about when you get circles or pockets where it's dried before you went back over it with a brush? I think this is still part of the learning (for me) but I was brushing all over the model instead of sections at a time, and now I've got blotches.... The paint job isn't the best anyway, but I'd like to fix what I can.

Unfortunately, Not much to be done but repaint over the blotch and try again, but that has its own inherent problems...

If it’s a rather large issue, then one can try a Q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol, and lightly drawn over the area to wipe off the wash, but not so hard and heavy to pull off the paint underneath - it’s a delicate procedure that way.
