Scum and Villainy 78: Gencon and 2.0 List Building

By Kelvan, in X-Wing

So I'm trying something new. We're sacrificing editing, for time. We recorded this earlier today and would appreciate feedback on whether you'd rather us edit with our normal schedule or have us release as is after we record.

https://scumvillainy.podbean.com/e/ep-78-gencon-and-20-list-building/

Sable, Scruffy, Starslinger, Will and Kelvan talk about the events of GenCon including their North American Championship results and the 2.0 tournament.

We also go over list building in 2.0, some of our favorite value cards, and some of our Favorite lists.

Fun episode. I am one of those who was just overwhelmed by the amount of content with which to build, so it was good hearing some ideas. Tyler - what a great list! As a fan of TIE strikers, I can totally get behind that Whisper + 4 Planetary Defenders squad. Also, super great to have Sable Gryphon regularly on the show again.

The sloan/ ruthlessness/ multiple blocker combo is insane.

I haven't had a chance to listen to the episode yet, but does Blair know Predator is primary only?

Tyler's list is definitely the scariest at first blush. Sloane is an incredible card.

I'll bet he does not.

2.0... what a world.

Really enjoyed the episode. I could tell that the editing was not y'all's usual standard but it was not hard to listen to. Maybe it's just a matter of lowered expectations since I listen to the Krayts now...

Anyways, I've wished before that you guys could release faster, so I'm in favor of this quicker turn around.

Trendsetting in lower quality.

But thank you!

So I'm going through trying to figure out lists I want to try out. I've broken it down to:

Horton List
Awing Swarm
Lambda Shuttle list, preferably a swarm.
Straight up tie swarm
Some sort of Tug Boat list, for reasons.
Gunboat List
Probably an Xwing Swarm.

I'll fill them in as I think of them. I'll try to try each out at some point.

I know, right. A couple days ago, my local group was having a discussion about how we were pretty much okay with not putting any particular upgrade on a ship. Like "I don't really have the points for the Sensor slot" followed by a shoulder shrug.

A/Y nirvana. For 200 points:

Horton Salm (Expert Handling, Ion Cannon Turret, Veteran Turret Gunner, R5 Astromech)

Grey Squadron Bomber (Skilled Bombardier, Proton Bombs, Ion Cannon Turret)

Jake Farrell (Daredevil, Proton Rockets)

Arvel Crynyd (Intimidation, Proton Rockets)

A mix of control, bombs, and blammo strike ... Arvel pairs so nicely with Horton, with Jake to throw some Focus. It's like pairing brains with a nice Chianti.

I think Arvel is amazing now!

I mean no one knows at this point. You know you're gonna see a tie swarm, boba fett, and sup Vader. After that it's crazy.

Im trying this right now for Horton. I think wedge, arvel, and Horton pair well.

Sacrilege!

"No green dice for you! And I shall reroll my attacks!"

Though I really like the Prockets on Arvel if you can pass him a focus. Smash into someone, drop their pants, shove them five dice of Prockets and giggle as they can't shoot back.

Yea, im really excited to get my echo swarm on the table. Sloane is my favorite imp card. Was looking at strikers like Tyler, but I think more is merrier, and Echo is a lot harder to pin down.

From limited testing, it seems the locals have basically the all gravtitaed to miniswarm TIEs or full on swarm

Hard to argue with them, Howlie/Iden/Mr. meeko (look at me!) all have powerful and syngeristic abilities that make rebels look like dorks

So, basically any list make has to take howlie swarms into effect, which basically means you either stuff yourself with rerolls + focus and/or Trajectory Simulator

So basically every list has either a punisher or moldy crow with optional Sol Sixxa havoc. Seri (aka The "Antirunner") seems promising

And until FFG gives Kwings the ****** Trajectory Simulators they deserve, I ain't touching rebels :(

I think you'll see aces deal with swarms well. It's just that aces got harder.

Either way I know in my heart im running a tournament with Arvel/Horton at least once.

So i think you have a good point that you'll have more ships to trigger Sloane. But those striker have more "weight" they're harder to not shoot.

Unrelated I've been staring at this for 2 days.
