Han Tactics & Strategies

By Gengis Jon, in Star Wars: Legion

I’ve got Han ready to run and gun, yet I find myself mostly looking forward to playing him with Chewie.

In the meantime, tho, I know there are plenty of possibilities to play him alongside Leia and, maybe to a lesser extent, with Luke. And honestly, I haven’t even thought about the pros and cons of him as a — forgive me — solo commander.

So, for folks who’ve already started running him in their armies, or given some serious thought to it at least, what are your thoughts?

Not quite what you are asking...but is there a limit to how many commanders you can field?(dont have the book infront of me).

You can field up to two commanders and two operatives. Chewie is an operative and not a commander.

Yeah thought it was 2.

Wondered if fielding Han, Luke and Leaia with Chewy with em would be viable. guess nothing to stop it in friendly games.

Too many points.

fact is you are supposed to use Chewbacca - and his glorious command cards - with one of the three above. And actually use only one of those command cards.

Sorry for any confusion. Was just wondering how folks are deploying Han, or planning to.

- optimal Army builds to use with him

- strategies for his command cards

- tactics for his abilities

- synergies with other commanders and units

- Any lessons learned with him from the battlefield so far

While I haven't tried him on the battlefield yet, I would think you'd want to be aggressive with him. He's all about disruption, with his command cards and ability to put out two suppression counters per attack in range 2.

I'd put esteemed leader on him to help soak off some wounds and never let my opponent do what they'd like to do in any given situation.

You want to shoot first? Sorry about the mess. You want to take out my saboteurs before they can detonate those mines or grab an objective? Reckless diversion. You have the perfect command card? Change of plans. You're sick of Han and want to kill him? Low profile in cover, esteemed leader, etc.

Where Luke wants to smash and Leia sit back and support, Han will play the middle game and probably will take a little time to learn how best to disrupt your opponents.

I’ve used him three times now.

I run

Han with emergency stems

Leia with stems

16pt commando with sab

16 pt commando with sniper grappling hooks

60 pt commando with sniper and stems

atrt rotary

fleet extra man and scatter gun and impact grenades

3 troopers extra man and z-6

its a great list that is really fun.

795 total

That’s a cool list. What we’re your takeaways with Han in particular? Any lessons learned with him you’d care to share?

Han w/Chewbacca will be able to distract for a Speeder twice a game.

Stealth resiliancy for a much maligned unit.

I'll prolly explore that when both units are out.

Well I suggest to use him with Leia. And one of them needs Improvised orders. That card is simply too strong.

Or auto-initiative twice a game for any unit with an HQ uplink as well, including the speeder. Then again, that's 400 points.

It works a lot better with Fleets or Flame RTs, who have far better damage output than the speeder.

Speeder is a different kind of unit.

Mixing firepower and mobility.

.....and fragility.

If you wanna use the speeder, I think this is the way.

It’s definitely a mix of mobility and fragility.

I don’t know about firepower, though. 3.75 hits for 175 points is terrible. That’s worse efficiency against troopers than a laser cannon AT-RT.

The T-47 has a wounds per point (wpp) of .011 against Stormtroopers. Fleets with a scattergun are .048, nearly five times better.

If you are going to burn Han’s two pip to protect a unit or units it should be ones that can kill more than two stormtroopers with their free opportunity.

Dont get me wrong, I love the T-47. It’s the first model I bought and painted. I used it extensively early on. It’s just not good for what you are giving up to take it.

Its pretty much a fantastic option for making the shortest work of an ATST. It needs multiple turns to do it though.

...that in and of itself lumits the unit usefulness though in an all round list.

So key take away a with Han are with white dice and refills he can still get killed by a fresh pair of bikes with an aim token. Defensively he is better than Liea but squishyier than Luke. Dodge and light cover are super important for him. I run him behind an atrt to help with that.

Offensivly if he can fire at two separate units it is a very high chance that he will put two damage out every time. Paired with fleets it can kill bikes. Paired with the atrt and a squad of troopers he can wipe unit’s of troopers off the board.

His Command cards are fantastic at countering Veers. On more than one occasion I was able to mess up my opponents goals.

Personally he is my favorite of the rebel commanders. While he is fantastic right now I believe when pair with his hairy friend he is going to be amazing!

as far as who to team him with I prefer “Husband and Wife” over “Bros” and I never run him “Solo” lol

H/W is a great 10 activation list with lots of tools.

Bros eats up way too many points with Luke.

Han is good but needs Leia’s cards to aid the other units on the field. This may change with Chewbacca and specialists.

Correction to my Original list move stems from the larger commando unit to the 2 man sab team. This ensures that your sab will detonate charge before death.
