Droid Crafting

By Lancer999, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Ok here is a screen shot of the page I have a question on...Does this mean that if you get the following roll....1 Suc, 1 Triph, 4 Adv (Net), but also have 2 Threat, that the GM has to use the 2 Threat even though they were not the net result? Or since your net is the above you dont worry about the threat?

Confused. Thanks in adv.

There is no Threat if the net is Advantage (unless using the talent Creative Design from Shipwright)

@Darzil is correct. advantages and Threats cancel each other out, just like Successes and Failures cancel each other out. The only two that don’t cancel each other out are Triumphs and Despairs.

I'm AFB at the moment, but I seem to recall you don't cancel out Advantages and Threats when crafting. That applies to droids, tools, weapons, armor, vehicles, starships, lightsabers, all of it.

In order to craft an item, you have to perform a skill check. Part of a skill check is that you cancel out Advantages and Threats. There is no mention in any of the crafting sections in splat books that this isn't done for crafting.

If that's the case, then there's really no reason for PC's to craft anything. They'd be better off paying NPC's that have Talents that are unavailable to the PC's, and having them do it. Better to pay the cost instead of cheaping out and winding up with a blaster that does what you want (success), and does it well (advantage), but randomly stops working (failure), and has an attack penalty because the balance is all funny (threat).

I suspect that the people who've posted this far about the advantages and threats cancelling are right. That's the way the rest of the system works, I can't see why it would be different for this one aspect.

@EpicTed is correct here. Advantages always cancel out Threats unless specifically stated otherwise.

It's order of operations.

Positive results are applied by the player, THEN the GM takes care of any negatives.

It's for situations Where you'll have a Triumph and Threat, or Advantage and Despair.

I suspect the reason to set the order this way is to prevent the Player from selecting benefits that directly counter a penalty. If the negative results are applied last, then the GM can always pick penalty options that will still apply.

So if there is the Net Result is 1S, 1Triumph, 3Adv....Then there isnt anything that the GM does.

However if the Net Result was 1S 1Triumph 2 Threat, then PC does something 1st then the GM does something w/ the Threat. But since my results did NOT result in Threat or Despairs then I am good!

Exactly.

He adjudicates as with all things. But yeah, under typical conditions, it's all player.
