Comparing 2.0 Ships to 1.0 Ships

By Crabbok, in X-Wing

Hi everyone! I normally do unboxings as a regular part of my youtube channel, but for Gen Con I wasn't able to fit everything in my luggage and keeping the packaging in tact. As a result I had to break everything down and now that I'm home I am left with a pre-opened version of each 2.0 expansion. So what I'm doing differently here, is I'm comparing them directly to their 1.0 counterparts, to better help you all decide weather or not the new paint scheme or sculpts are worth your investment.

Here are some examples.

I'm working on doing all of them now, so stay tuned for more. If you are on the fence about any of them, hopefully you'll find these video reviews helpful!

I watched your Y-wing and X-wing videos last night. Good stuff.

For the T-65, honestly I couldn't care less about the movable S-foils. It's good to know they stay in their desired position (that's what she said) better than the Partisan version, but I don't think that it's enough for me to buy more X-wings because the model is better. I'm fine with my 1e's and Partisan version, and look forward to having Red 5 from the core. That will be enough for me, though.

For the Y-wing, I absolutely cannot stand the new version. The nacelles are better because they stay the same size all the way back, but that's it. Maybe there is more detail, but not enough for me to care or even notice, really. I think the guns on the front are WAY too big, and the turret on the canopy is even bigger. I'm happy with my (way too many) 1e Ys, both Rebel and Scum, thank you.

But like I said, great videos. Thanks!

I only own one copy of most ships, so I'll probably end up buying the new versions of most 2e stuff, at least of the small and medium-based ships.

Have to agree on the ywing, I really wanted one on reveal but seeing good close ups of it I’m pretty fine not getting it. The front looks horrible compared to the back.

I don't mind the front, but the turret guns are rather oversized on the 2.0 model. Still isn't stopping me from buying a couple. The biggest change in my mind is the detail on the main body which in my opinion looks way better on the 2.0 model.

Of course the 1.0 model isn't even accurate to the art. :P

This is very cool and helpful.

I like the new Y-Wing, and will certainly get one to fly in 1.0 just to be able to differentiate my "hero" from the rest of the squad.

Since the TIE Adv is basically the same, it's a no go.

The only reason to get a new Tie Fighter or Advanced is to get them in Imperial Blue instead of Imperial White/Grey.

You know they used the same paint color for the TIEs for all three films, right (Tamiya Haze Gray, IIRC)? The difference in color on-screen was entirely because of how they were lit.

I'm not going to take them time to do google-fo to try and refute your comment however it doesn't change the fact that 1.0 Tie Fighters and Tie Advanced were originally released in ANH White while all the other imperial ships were released in ESB Blue, they are just now making it so your entire force, when it comes to Ties, will have a matching color scheme.

Don't know why it double posted but it did.

Honestly, seeing the Firesprays next to each other I think I prefer the more dull 1.0 color scheme.
