2.0 Deploy/Docked Rules

By xNyer, in X-Wing Rules Questions

My question is about the regular Dock/Deploy rules in 2.0. It says you deploy in the System Phase but it doesn't mention the other phases. Is it safe to assume you activate like normal in the Activation Phase? You don't have a dial but it says "When a ship activates, if it skips the Reveal Dial step, it cannot resolve any abilities that trigger after the ship reveals its dial." So I read that as implying it's ok to not have a dial. In which case it would just skip to step 3, "Perform Action"? That's kind of weird though since as part of the deploy it gets to perform an action already. So that's 2 actions on it's deploy round. Then I can only assume it gets an attack also. Is that correct? Are there any rules from 2.0 that say or imply otherwise? Help me out because I'm spending too much time trying to come up with awesome deploy/re-dock shenanigans for my falcon if this isn't correct.

It sounds to me that you caught an error. Rules as written, you activate in the Activation phase, but skip the reveal dial and execute maneuver steps and go to the perform action step. I don't think that was the intention, since a deploying ship gets two actions. You can definitely attack in the engagement phase, though.

Sounds like a good question to go to @OfficialRules ! ;)

I am 100% sure the deployed ship is not supposed to get an extra action. Just look at it logically for a second: thr ship deployed by executing a maneuver and then got to do an action. Maneuver. Action. Clearly, that IS it's activation for the round. It seems obvious to me that you're supposed to ignore a deployed ship during activation, they just neglected to make it explicit.

The text about not having a dial assigned is for ionized ships. At present that's the only time a ship without a dial should activate and the specific rules for how to handle ionized ships are in there.

There will probably be some "RAW" counter arguments but I guarantee you if and when FFG rules official the deployed ship doesn't activate also and then just sit there and get a free action.
