Are there any Star Wars specific diseases?

By player3122701, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I’m honing to be running a game where my main players will be dealing with slavery, and diseases on regular basis.

Are there any Star Wars specific diseases I should include?

Are there any special rules for handling disease?

Any help would be appreciated. ?

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Special:Search?search=Disease&fulltext=Search&ns0=1&ns14=1&ns112=1# this search list should have some good stuff I hope, didn't really check through it.

I would probably just go with a resilience test based on how virulent the disease is, if they're the same species and how close they got. So the difficulty might be quite varied. If they catch it then probably throw some setback dies in until they can get medical attention to get rid of it.

Duh, I knew I should have Wookiepedia first now it looks I need to make my own rules for them. Any suggestions would be appreciated

Easiest one i can think of would be rakghoul plague.

Worst case scenario, take any earthborn disease or virus (measles, HIV, cancer) rename it something suitably star wars-y, blame the sith or some fringe faction with meddling with things best left untouched and go from there.

I guess it would function in the same way a poison would...

Well one never knows, you did after all ask for Star Wars diseases, which implies you want names of them.

I would say it depends on what sort of problems are caused by the sickness. As far as I know there are no rules for handling diseases. But Resiliance is used to resist various physical ailment, hence that would be a decent skill to resist them with.

Falsin Rot would probably affect your presence, since it's a parasite that makes your skin slough off. Hard to be charming then.

Cardooine Chills would probably give setback to everything since you're shivering and constantly hungry.

Krytos Virus is going to lead to being dead if not treated.

Read what they do, think on what seems reasonable and then implement that.

There’s information related to the Blue Shadow Virus (as seen on Clone Wars) in Unlimited Power.

But, myself, I’ve always been a fan of the Crimson Forever .

Except that most poisons are not contagious and presumably the OP want's something that is contagious.

So you simply add on that anyone in close contact with the person afflicted also has to do a resilience test. Boom, now it's contagious.

You might want to consider other vectors besides contact, and the incubation period will be important too. Also, unlike many toxic substances, very few diseases are likely to afflict a wide range of species (even if all of those species are from the same world), but it's up to the GM on whether to enforce this level of reality or not--it's not like most Star Wars species can't eat the same food.

Yes, that's why I said these things earlier.

But the Kubaz sniffles with a long incubation time and no real ill effects other than fever and a slight sniffle is hardly interesting if there are no Kubaz around. Therefore a loose framework could be useful, one that can be adapted to whatever the story needs. Poison and resilience works rather well for this, since you can up the difficulty of the roll and slap on setback dice depending on the circumstances. So a Hutt might face a easy roll when they're down in the holds and treating Twi'Leks, since they're robust and thrive in enviorments others find disgusting. Meanwhile the Twi'Lek smuggler might face a daunting check with plenty of setbacks since they're the same species and not as robust.

Then again, Star Wars has plenty of engineered bioweapons that are out there in the galaxy, making it a more interesting place. Stuff that can and will cross species boundaries, some even created by the empire. Then there are the force virus things that afflict your mind and can hang around a place for millennia after it was released.

OTOH, there are some toxic substances (including radioactive ones) that can spread from victim to victim by contact. While Resistance is the skill to withstand the effects of exposure, Vigilance would be the skill to avoid exposure (with the difficulty depending on the environment and gear at hand along with what you are doing).
