Assuming 1st Edition cards, instinct is correct. I recommend parking Captain Yorr nearby.

If 2nd Edition, instinct is not necessarily correct. If your Detector still has charges, you can spend one to ignore the obstacle's effect -- which includes the stress. If you're out of charges (or elect not to spend one) then you take the stress.
