Quick Builds--What's Going On?

By Force Majeure, in X-Wing

Quick Builds--No one seems to have noticed or mentioned them.

Rebel

Imperial

Scum

They're located on the X-wing Second Edition page under Support

----------------------------------

So, the build-outs are different from what we can put together via the sheets with the points costs. Any idea why? Will there be different competitions for Organized Play? Curiouser and curiouser...

Yes there will be new kits called wave kits, they support three different formats. There will be a quick build tournament, themed tournament and a wave championship as well. It’s one kit to support all three formats.

Quickbuilds are not necessarily legal builds. They're an alternate play format.

Quickbuild cards sit upon a throne of lies.

They cannot be trusted.

@Vykk Draygo So when the next official events happen such as a regional event (whatevere they're called now), we might have winners in the 3 different categories?

The scum ones are pretty cool. Not sure if Skull + Fearless is as good as Old T. (Old T is much much better)

So each event will have a winner and a prize for that, and then each wave will have a "Wave Leader" prize for somebody who does the best at all three events combined. Each kit contains 75 "Arcade Tokens," which I can only guess are given to people at all three events based on rankings to help to determine the Wave Leader.

I'm kind of annoyed with Quick Builds, in that they are only for the full-expansion ships, rather than converted ships. I was kind of looking forward to some more draft-based tournaments or games, possibly even breaking faction restrictions with Scum mixed into other lists. But with so few ships released for quick builds, eh.

Would you be interested in a set of unofficial quickbuilds? I did those for 1st edition so I still have the template. I can ask my locals to help me come up with builds for them, and then whip up some if you like.

Ok someone has been sleeping for the last couple weeks lol.

wave kits will have support for a quick build tournament, these must use the qb cards and these do break the normal rules with regards upgrades. These are really geared to help new players by using set combos and limiting list building.

a wave kit also supports a wave championship, like the current store championship, but you must use ships from that wave not unreleased ships. You build your own ships for this.

quarter kits look like they will allow any ships to be used and you build your own.

hyperspace qualifiers replace regionals and we can’t be sure but I am hoping these will allow ships from all content available in the conversion kits as these tournaments are for experienced players as a general rule, not that new players can’t play but they should be expected to read up on the other stuff out there.

so the qb cards are for a specific tournament that is released with each wave.

hope that helps.

i already thought quickbuilds were silly but once we found out they dont even follow the upgrade logic i started to hate them.

Why would you design something intended for people to get into the game quick when its full of lies? A newcomer using a Protectorate is going to go "Man, Fenn is a BEAST!" and decide to start collecting and make normal lists, only to find he cant use ABs and Fenn becomes rather tame as a result.

As an example....

Not really, but thanks for offering. I mean, I don't know how high the chance is I'd get around to using them anyhow even if official, so I wouldn't want anyone to put effort into it on my account.

As a point here is all the rebel and imperial quick build cards with upgrades expanded on each card.

https://boardgamegeek.com/filepage/166953/quick-build-cards-1-file-each-ship-type

the cards are 70x120 in size to allow space to fit it all in and still look ok, also that size fits the ffg tarot sized sleeves. Just means you don’t have to get the pilot card and all the upgrade cards out but can use 1 card for each ship instead, apart from x wings which need the s foils as a card to flip.

Nice! The official FFG quickbuild alt-art quickbuilds are also doing this - tarot sized cards that have all the text on them. Sadly, their method tends to look really crowded once you have a unique pilot with lots of upgrades

The breakdown I saw on these kits from the FLGS I run events for showed the kit to contain enough prize support for two 12 people tournaments, one quick build cards the other a themed tournament (I suppose this is where the ability to modify the app for tournaments comes in). It also includes prize support for 32 people for a wave championship. There is also a prize for wave leader for person with best score across all three tournaments. There is also supposed to be something for the FLGS to give out when you make purchases, a type of customer loyalty I guess.

I have seen seen the list of these, no descriptions of what just numbers, I hope for some different type events to draw more players in, we shall see.

Bor Gullet will know the truth.

I don't know much about the quick builds, but I do know this clearly demonstrates Evaan has no idea how turrets work if shes loading them into the torpedo tubes.

They're legal in quickbuild format ;)

As I said before quickbuilds are nice in formats that are not premier level competitive formats. Formats such as objective based story missions, co-op/single player campaign with AI enemy/NPCs or even Epic which hasn't crossed over into 2.0 You can use quick builds for the starfighters, and the 1st edition squadron points for the huge ships. Not to mention those builds are universally agreed upon when using such formats. No need to worry if the list is legal in regionals/worlds when you are not playing in those tournaments.

The conversion kits are just to allow us to play with the ships we already own. They're not meant to fully bring all the tricks and toys of every ship into second edition. The non-wave-I ships will get their quick-build cards when they're officially released.

I think the illegal builds out now are probably about balance. It can be hard to balance between T-65's and Tie Fighters with just a few ships.

Personally, I like the idea of QB events. It seems like a fun event where you don't have to deal with the latest netlist stuff.

I'm more curious about the themed events. Any more details about them?

This. Plus, if you want to do scenarios or something wacky and wonderful, it's a lot easier for an organiser to throw out a few custom quickbuilds or something.

It allows them to create semi-structured stuff for scenarios or pick-up games without 'messing' with the (supposedly) exacting balance of free-build, matched play points values.

Imagine a falcon quickbuild with Han, Luke, Leia, Chewie, Threepio, and Artoo all on the same ship for an 'escape the deathstar' scenario, for example.

Also; is there some reason there's no quickbuild for Mauler Mithel?

To be sure they'll get quick builds eventually. But quick builds aren't meant to bring in all the tricks and toys of every ship. They're, well, quick builds. Want to toss a Leebo on the field? Put forward a VT-49 Decimator?

I mean, sometimes our local TO runs little X-Wing demos at the local cons a few times a year, and having quick builds for everything would be handy. Grab the model from the full range you think looks coolest, then there's the low-stress, somewhat balanced quick build.

Quickbuilds also allow for a more manageable sort of "sealed deck" play that we could only kludge together in 1E.

My biggest problem with the quickbuilds is that they're still hilariously unbalanced. But, whatevs. If you want to actually win a quickbuild tournament, just bring Supernatural Vader. Other than that, have fun.

It's possible he's in the Core set. I don't think any core set ships have Quick Builds (at least Luke and Jek don't)
