Buh-bye 1.0!

By Hawkstrike, in X-Wing

I spent part of today packing up the 1.0 stuff I don't expect to be carrying over to 2.0.

It's quite a bit:

pic4249254.jpg

I've kept out acrylic tokens and range rulers, enough 1.0 ships and cards for the few lists I expect to fly between now an 13 Sep, the Epic-specific stuff, and bomb tokens that I don't know whether there will be 2.0 versions of or not.

De-sleeved all of the other cards, filling a World's card box and two more Star Wars X-Wing card boxes. Three gallon ziplocs of bases and dials, one for each faction, plus a ton of individual bags of cardboard tokens (thanks, FFG, for all of the extra bags!). Multiple damage decks, a giant pile of reference cards (they'd fill another card box, if I had one), a bag of miscellaneous acrylics that I don't use ...

Will have to sort out extra bases still once the conversion kits drop.

On to 2.0!

I've been doing much the same since I snagged 2.0 stuff at gencon. I was planning on keeping all the 1.0 stuff around but having it mostly boxed up it still takes up a ton of space.

I might keep it around just in case 2.0 epic never takes off but now I'm seriously debating just getting rid of it all eventually.

What is that? A single reactor ignition??

Child's play. I don't even see a single epic base. . .

:P

He said he didn’t pack up epic till they convert it ?

Already put all 1.0 cards in a binder and separated it from my models. Emptied out my quick token tray (because I only need at most 12 shield tokens not 200) so that is ready.

There are still some things I am keeping. All the mission tokens will be combined because they are frankly great for any custom scenario. Also Epic will still be having all its stuff.

As for Epic I think if I play a ver 1.59 I would be using the prebuild threat for the starfighters and have epic use squadron points and Epic points go out the window. Starfighters will have the new turrets but CR-90 and armed gozanti/croc get the full 360 arc (with zuckuss for more salt :P )

  • <40 points get 24 threat (16 team)
  • 40-60 points 20 threat (14 team)
  • 60-80 points 16 threat (12 team)
  • 80-100 points 12 threat (10 team)
  • 100-120 points 8 threat (8 team)
  • 120+ points get 5 threat (4 team)

Simple addition of 2.0 ships without making a whole mess of what point structure equals what. Also using threat avoids huge ship killer combos (like 8 Y-wing with TLT) that used to ruin epic back in the day.

I recently emptied out every box and carry case I have for X-Wing and worked through it all with a friend.

We were in our FLGS at the time, so things that I didn't want (some broken models, lots of tokens, and some carry cases), were given to local guys who are newer to the game. Felt good knowing that stuff might still get some use.

Emptied out my pilot binder in preparation.

Now I've got half the clutter I had, with everything packed away and taking up about a third of the space. I' might take a couple of bits back out for between now and 2e. But really that's it.

It was weird knowing that my upgrades binder and everything in it was dead.

Looking back over my models, I'll be getting an Imp conversion kit. I've 25 or so Scum ships too. I won't sell them, but I won't get getting a Scum conversion for a little while.

Ugh. Looking at that pic makes me dread having to do the same to my collection. It's not as big, but still.

I know they couldn't know at the time, but if the original Core set had, say 10 of each regular token like focus, evade, stress and shields, so we didn't get so many more tokens in each expansion there'd be so much less to put away or toss out. Special tokens like T-beams, jam, ions, etc. would still be in the expansion packs, naturally.

Here's hoping next edition has less clutter!

I've started doing this. going through my upgrade cards, taking inventory to make sure none are missing. I'll have four binders of cards when it's all done, 3 pilot binders and one upgrade binder. No sure Ill do the same with the tokens, those I'll prob sort in bags like above without counting them. same with the dials and ship bases. it will be nice to get some of the bloat out of the way. Plan to box it all up for now and see if it has any resale value after a while, if not, I'll prob dump it all in year or so.

I have like 15 unopened ships that I’m not bothering to sort. Just pop the model and throw the bag in a box with the other stuff. Not really caring if it’s organized, it’ll be there if I need it and the chances of me needing it are very low. I do have my earlier stuff sorted but only enough to make a targetted search viable. Spending hours organizing something I never plan to use is just not good business.

I'm pretty sure that's what they did. I have an X-Wing, Y-Wing and Rebel Conversion kit and zero focus, evade or stress tokens for 2.0. Plenty of charge and miscellany tokens though.

it's extra amusing now that I only have the 2.0 core set and conversion kits. I have a huge bag full of just shield tokens, but only the four 2.0 shield tokens from the core set. I took a red marker and filled in the shield icon of one side of a bunch of 1.0 tokens that will work for now, but it's weird almost having a lack of tokens considering the excess of them in 1.0

All my 1.0 stuff sans 2 100 point lists and one epic list are all in a shoebox awaiting phased retirement.

Im holding onto it until I see epic 2.0, then it’s gone.

I personnally put all the token and what was related to 1.0 and have put them in a box.

All the materials that helped me carry my tokens and all my playing habits is now ready for 2.0, waiting to be filled with the new tokens. I don't know yet if I will order some new acrylic tokens. Probably.

The storage for my ships stays the same, since they will be used for 2.0.

Oh boy.

I’m torn. I still haven’t decided what fun time list I’m flying at Nova.

Also I plan to sell off my first order and resistance, hopefully going to some new local player in the area (they may end up as prizes for a tourney. As in entry fee goes for F/O conversion kit, first place gets kit and star fighters with it).

that and there’s several chunks of foam that make up a trench run scenario covering it all.

Also, never the fan of receiving moar tokens, I may do some simple conversions to update shields and TLs to 2.0. (I have some ideas about converting TLs)

I'm just using existing shield tokens and target locks in 2.0. I can remove as well as flip. And with the blue TL, it's easier to remember to break a lock if you get jammed.

I bought a TON of acrylic tokens for 1.0. Like, an absurd amount. I'm going to use as much as I can from that with 2.0 and phase out things that just don't work and replace those with new acrylics...

What? I like my plastics!

I've only got about 40 ships, but I bought specifically for a combination of competitiveness and fun. Now I have to deal with a swathe of rapid-fire releases to remain in that competitive spot. I'll probably play 2.0, but not nearly as much as Armada anymore.

My storage solution is pretty dynamic, so I don't anticipate needing to change much there besides the pain of resleeving cards.
