Can't say I expected to see a Defender with a System upgrade, particularly Advanced Sensors!

I recognize that we all have absolutely zero idea what is actually going to be effective in 2nd Edition, but after a tiny bit of table time this seems very good and not necessarily that difficult to line up bullseye shots with either.

Not the first person to post about this but it warrants more discussion either way.

Opinions?

Advanced Sensors Defenders, particularly with Daredevil, are going to be hilariously good. They can go ANYWHERE.

Don’t forget that Adv Sensor shuts off Full Throttle

Outmaneuver, ion cannon, collision detector Rexler is my favorite loadout on Vassal. When not paired with Vader, the bid is converted into prockets.

Still an awesome option to have, especially with boost/k turn. Also, moderate bump insurance

Indeed. You lose all your mods but with that much positional flex you should be able to arc dodge like a demon.

I'm excited to try adv sensors since it will back the 4 k much less predictable and blockable. And sometimes you bump or want to go slow, so losing the evade would happen anyways.

I've had the Adv Sensor Ryad build on my mind since I first saw Defenders could get Sensors. I put Outmaneuver on her instead of Lone Wolf, considering what she's capable of, plus no HLC for a cool 100pts. I know I lose the reroll, but you make up for it with your target rolling fewer dice and reds are better than greens.

BUT, you have to back her up. I've been thinking a pair of Squints or a Bomber/Punisher combo. Any ideas?

Crap, I hadn't even thought of Daredevil. Ryad is disgusting as is - with Daredevil it doesn't even seem fair. Though she'd be stressed going into the next turn after the Daredevil action.

Two Nu Starwings with FCS, Ion Cannon, and proton rockets

You are wasting points on the Ion cannon.

Really, all cannons are part of one large steaming pile of bull. The ship is already way too expensive, without a double tap, there is no way to justify spending more points to sometimes maybe do something that is less effective in achieving the primary win condition of the game, than what you would do normally.

Well.. she costs more than Chewbacca. And she only takes 1 action per turn, and she gets stressed. I'd say she is fair.

Would def collision Detector over sensors

Sure it's only two charges, but those are two turns of being Dash ******* Rendar and doing whatever the **** you **** well please

Have a feeling it'll be an initally, critically overlooked upgrade

For sure. Collision Detector in 1.0 was a throw away upgrade you grabbed for your system slot when you didn't have points for anything else. The 2.0 version is a totally different animal.

Does it work with cloak?

Really hope linked battery comes back as a way to fire cannons and primary attack together ala 1.0 tie/d and 2.0 veteran turret/tail gunner.

Wouldn't that be way to easy to use though?

I want X-Wing to be a difficult game to play.

Every ship/pilot should feel like its bad in one or ideally multiple ways.

Lone wolf (4 pts) and Predator (2 pts) are both rewarding and really nice on alot of stuff if your looking for rerolls.

Make the cannon double tap bullseye only (no other restrictions.) There you go. It's skill based now

I'd say the skill level of veteran turret/tail gunner isn't high either. And it wouldn't be free and requires even more points sunk into a cannon.

Here is hoping that when they re-release the Defender we get a Defender Elite config that enables the double tap or otherwise increases the offense.

I find it hilarious that FFG made the Imperials the "Hope" faction, with green dice, lack of shields, and their policies around balance.

Someone clearly has not won 3 2e games by making sure Wedge or Luke cannot talon roll and blast torpedoes or disallow an enemy Vader to escape and never be in arc again. Also, I love me my MOV fortresses, especially if they have to lose 4 out of 7 tanky health to even yield half points.

4 Shields and 3 Hull is actually the Defender flaw. You can’t protect those 4 shields from Krennic so even if it takes a while an optimised prototype Phantom should just burn away those shields for half points on a very expensive ship that is in most respects quite hard to hit.

I’m not entirely sure what you are talking about. Rebels might look dull (but good) and Scum might look scummy, but Empire has so many cool new things to explore. The Empire crew alone is something to rejoice. The other factions already had tons of crew so they got nothing new while the Empire got a bunch of cool crew toys, many of which mean Palp is not auto include in lists anymore.

Empire is kind of the Force faction. Looking forward to seeing some “darkside” upgrades in the future.

While there is no crew slot, I really want the new Defender to come with Thrawn. Something needs to have Thrawn. I still feel like Krennic actually has Thrawn’s text. Optomised Prototypes was Thrawn’s thing. Krennic was just an achievement seeker.

All I know at the moment is that I want to use a Defender in my first 2e list.

Rex? Ryad? Vess? They all look great! I'll probably plump for Juke and FCS. But AS looks really good too.

Seem to be countless options to partner with it. Paralysis from too many options at the moment.

Inorite.

I'm fully expecting not to use a list more than twice for the first 6 months of the game right now.

The idea is to use Adv Sensors, the 1 hard turns that now don't rob you of an action, the white k-turn and the native barrel roll and boost to get you into positions where you don't need the evade token anyway.

It's an amazing option to have on them.

This is a really good shout, though.

I will freely admit I've definitely been overlooking it myself. But you're right, with each Defender being half your list, you need to be able to leverage all the tricks to get shots you can. The Defender needs to be able to do things its enemies can't if it's it to be worth the points. Getting to park on a rock to get a critical range 1 flank shot could be amazing.

I'm not real keen on the limited charge nature of collision detector. It seems great on lesser ships, but for something that lasts as long as a Defender, I want a card more regularly used.

I'm open to having my mind changed, though.
