2E Norra and 3CP0

By Jadotch, in X-Wing

Norra is the pilot on an ARC-170, 3CP0 is the crew.

When guessing for 3CP0 do you add Norra's added evade result?

If so, and you always guess "1" you are always guaranteed at least 2 evade results (if you are in range 0-1), maybe 3 if you have elusiveness or lone wolf .

No, the guess is about the number rolled in the initial roll, as in 1e.

Norra does not change the number of results you roll. Adding a result is not the same as rolling a result. C-3PO checks how many results you roll.

The issue with 3p0 is you have to spend a calculate token, which means instead of focusing you have to perform a calculate action. So he doesn't work all that great in this edition, imo. Now, if you can get multiple calculate tokens in a round somehow when using him, 3p0 makes sense, but doing a calculate action instead of any of the other actions is infinitely inferior in the case of many of these abilities.

Threepio gives you an extra calculate when you calculate so you can calculate while you calculate.

Ok, fair enough. Its still interior to a focus action, sadly. It's good if you just want to play defense, ...but mor si much if you need to be offensive.

Actually math says it's going to be better. Only time focus is stronger is if you get 3 focus results on a single roll. At all other times, double calculate is probably giving you the same amount of mods, but you can split it as needed. That being said, I'm probably not paying 12pts for him, so meh.

Threepio seems to be fantastic on Leebo. That's about it though.

I love that they've eliminated a bunch of the "easy-button" builds. C3PO used to be they perfect addition to anything with 1 Agility - you'd just guess zero and you'd wind up with 1 Evade. Now you actually have an element of chance with a greater return. It makes C3PO far more interesting and no longer an auto-include for certain ships. He can still be useful on Norra - guessing 1 and getting 1 results in up to 3 Evades, which is amazing for a big tub like the ARC. Personally, I'm a "Never tell me the odds" guy. :)

I loved it when I was in situations where I had to guess 1 in hopes of two evades. It adds so much more to that die roll. Sometimes I would guess one anyways just to try to avoid as much damage as possible. It's not the smartest play, but it's the more fun way to play. So I'm on board with the new wording, and one of the many reasons to enjoy 2.0.

Against a bucket of red/green dice, yes its worse.

In practice, no its actually better.

Its very very common for you to only mod 1 die with a focus anyway, either because you didnt roll that many dice or only had 1 focus result. One calculate is pathetic because you will always only mod 1, getting 2 calcs means you can mod 2 in 1 roll, or 2 in 2 different rolls. Thats big.

Unless you are rolling 4+ dice odds are 2x calc is better than focus.
