L3-37 config slot

By You Look Like A Nail, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Not sure if this has been covered before, but the L3-37 crew card turns into a Configuration when you flip it over. The Scum Falcon doesn't have a Configuration slot. Is the ruling here that you check for the card type when you equip and not when you flip it over, so L3-37 crew can be equipped to any Scum ship with a crew slot even if it doesn't have a configuration slot? Does the rules reference specify this anywhere or is it just implied?

My supposition is that it doesn't matter, going from years of 1e FAQ and tournament rules precedent. There were a few ways in 1e where you could equip something to start the game, but lose access to that upgrade slot, and things were fine. For example, R2-D6 and Integrated Astromech didn't impact the Elite upgrade you added, or Boba Fett crew could knock off any upgrade which gave you an upgrade slot, with no repercussions. Being a Configuration, ships can't include the already-config L3-37, but anything with a crew ought to be fine.

So what matters is that your ship has legal upgrades when it's built, but that it doesn't have stay that way as the game progresses.

1.0 Mist Hunter seems the closest parallel. The G1a doesnt have a cannon slot, but the card says you must equip a tractor beam.

In the same way, when L3-37 flips, it becomes a configuration, whether you had the slot or not.
