Supersize Me: SSD + ISD theory list

If there's a ship that can survive in a no squad situation, it will probably be the SSD.

So!

Criminal waste of the SSD's battleship skills.

How so?

Out of curiosity, what would be the plan for deployment? If I saw this on the other side of the table, my thoughts would be to leverage deployment advantage to set up on whichever side of the SSD the ISD wasn't. With the SSD being so slow and so long, the ISD would have a hard time getting around it to get involved in the fight in a meaningful way.

This , pretty much. The SSD's side arcs don't pack enough punch (without constant double-arcs, which you won't get) to pick off a large base from its side. So you'll get outdeployed (two drops), and they'll engage whichever side the ISD isn't on, so it won't be able to contribute and the SSD will die on turn four. (This is what's happened in both of my test games against it so far). And unlike a fish farm, you don't have a good way to earn a bunch of points while actively trying to not engage.

Corner deploy with the SSD pointed inwards with the ISD protecting its outside flank ready to wheel around.

Go ahead and try to wrap around it, it will blast you apart with it’s front arc all game.

Or stay on the other side and engage the ssds side arc with a supporting isd

What stops them from engaging just the ISD, either beyond the SSD's range or at long, and then taking their 130 point kill while 260 points of the list aren't contributing any more than an Arquitens would?

Not flying the isd away from the ssd? JJ to help you turn back

Step one is to corner deploy facing inward, with the ISD behind the SSD relative to the enemy deployment zone and at a 55/60 degree angle. The enemy will have to either deploy diagonally opposite allowing for easy turns to engage with my front arcs, or directly across from the SSD where the SSD and the ISD can utilize Jerry to turn in. This may necessitate the ISD going first (after the consecutive activation passes, of course) to give the SSD space to maneuver. But it should allow for a rapid engagement of both ships once units get into range.

I'd use the ISD similarly to my Backstop Demo system, where it will look for units engaging the ISD flanks and move into position, something it's better designed for than the SSD with the ability to actually turn around on a Jerry Nav Dial. Between the powerful side arcs and the Avenger shot at medium-long range very few ships will consistently survive.
