Rebels will not get a huge ship

By Crabbok, in Star Wars: Armada

WASSUP GUYS! OMG OMG everything is awesome!

So I'm at Gen Con - the news is great but this con is garbage. More on that later.

First off - Huge ships - Rebels won't get one. Why? They don't have one in canon (The Annihilator is pirate owned, so MAYBE but I doubt it). But you know who does? Clone Wars factions!

Malevolence! Lucrehulk even?

How bout the First Order!

Mandator 4! - Eclipse!!!!!

Resistance! - The Raddus!

They don't have to be exactly Executor sized to work!

I think this is further confirmation of other factions. At least being planned. I'll try to get someone to spill the beans on future factions for Armada while I'm at gen con, but honestly I'm too busy to really seek everyone out and talk about this stuff. This con is exhausting. Have played zero games, when I'm done I just wanna go to sleep. And jeesh they charge for EVERYTHING! Even to play games costs money! WTF! FFG is the only thing that makes Gen Con cool, the rest of the con can go fart in a basket.

well I guess they don't call this a "con" for nothing xD

I roll to disbelieve

Makes me feel better about not going, it wouldn't have a 3+ hour drive for me.

Viscount Star Defender?

It's post Civil War era, but not part of Force Awakens canon.

Potential squeeze in for Rebel faction?

Depends if they re canonize it. I dunno man... I see the Raddus as taking it's official spot.

If they make the ships, I wonder if they will make Resistance and First Order compatible with Rebels and Empire.

I think X-Wing 2.0 only seperated them because of power level issues.

So SSd is classed a 'huge' but we could also see 'extra large' class too?

I can buy that.

" There's always a bit of truth in legends " Ahsoka Tano Star Wars Rebels. FFG seems to have a good relationship with the Lucasfilm Story Group. They brought Thrawn and Rukh back they can bring in a Rebel huge ship to keep FFG royalties flowing. Even if it was an improved Clone Wars era huge ship refitted for the rebellion, Wookipedia has a few mentioned. These forums may help them decide which to choose.

That'd be news to the Rebellion...

This is as it should be. Rebels don't need to compensate for anything.

A new nedium sized ship woukdn't go amiss though.

I always thought Raddus was a bit bigger than MC-80s , I would be happy to see it as a large ship rather than a huge ship.

Rebels don't need a huge ship, they are not on the same level with the Empire in that sense.

Again it depends on what cannon, in Disney mutilated Jar Jar Abrhams Ryan Wrecked verse yeah only evil people have huge ships and good people are too stupid to know how to big a large ship.

In Legends yeah there was a huge ship for the New Republic (not the Special ****** Republic)

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Viscount-class_Star_Defender

I'll just leave this here.

But now that we all know that the story for episode VII-IX will be just as horrible as the story for episode I-III the ships will be cool, but I have been working on for X-wing sort of an alternative narrative so we don't have to follow that horrible cannon.

Going to work on a rough historical timeline, and a brief overview of major players inside the new galaxy where all 6 factions (C.I.S., Republic, Empire, Alliance, Resistance, 1stOrder) exists simultaneously.

I was willing to listen to what you had to say until you wrote that. Now I can't take you seriously.

I don't think the Rebels will get a huge ship of their own. Maybe, if forced, much like Scum got theirs only after a prolonged period of epic ships for the other proper factions before a concession was done.

What Rebels will do is probably have better tools to kill epic ships. Their superior fighters already make Imperial heavies have fighter allergies (necessitating such remedies as ordnance pods, Sloane, and Quasar Fires)- so I expect that leverage to work just as well against the SSD. I shudder to think how much an MC75 is going to get away with Raddus warping into a single trailing arc of the SSD (since, look at the arcs, forward arc can't help out with rear shots!). With moves like that, Rebels don't need bigger or badder to compete.

Besides even if they did, it's one sitting duck for every Cymoon/ISD/SSD to open fire upon with massive XI7 batteries and Palpatine/Intel officer staring superlaser vision into the ship's brace tokens. Rebels don't want to be sitting ducks- they want out of there! Use Raddus to deploy smaller heavies into positions of Imperial panic and open fire!

Then you were never going to take what I say seriously. However, much of the time it is better to simply not too.

Depends on what you like more, The Force Awakens, or the Last Jedi

For me I'll take Attack of the Clones. :P

Im pretty happy with no rebel epic ships because there is no present basis for them. Maybe at some stage disney will populate the post endor years which would provide a basis and context to such things but they dont fit at present anywhere in the timeline.

If we do get clone wars era then fine.

Aren't Starhawks canon?

They're canon, but not necessarily huge. We don't know much about them other than that they can take on a Star Destroyer, but are notably outgunned by an Executor-class, which is much bigger than them.

The MC85 could count as huge; it's a lot smaller than an SSD, but quite a bit bigger than the ISD. The ISD already goes far over the large base, so an MC85 might be a bit smaller than a huge base, but about as long. But that's fine; plenty of ships don't hang over their bases.

Everybody says that the Venator's large hangers would be problematic for Squadron balance, but this guy here would be like Squadrons 8.

I liked the old EU story of the Fortressa unloading 500 X-Wings on the Death Star. Certainly helps explain why so few TIE fighters were present during the Battle of Yavin.

OP, I see your point that rebels don't have a huge ship in cannon. There is one out there though. Not cannon but the viscount is "huge." or they can pull a raider and create one that will become cannon in a video game... Haha ? . I loved that BTW. Not bashing that practice.

Ehhh...it's squadron total is about the same as the Super Star Destroyer, and we've obviously got that coming.

(And if FFG did do this ship, I would imagine they'd love to include that as a title, too - so we'd get at least Lucrehulk Prime and Fortressa as titles for it.)

Except he's wrong - as noted, the 'Dr Aphra' comics are canon, and the Rebels definitely have a huge ship in them. The Lucrehulk Prime was where Hera Syndulla was training new Rebel pilots.

I guess it would come down to what FFG considers huge. 3000 meter luckrehulk compared to the 17000 meter SSD. I would put the radius, resurgent and luckrehulk in the category of large ships.

I think Rebels could use a medium based ship and/or another ship or retrofit with Fleet Command. My guess is the MC-80 will get two variants like the ISD did. It's so linear and dull, FFG will see it as a good move.

The Resurgent and Raddus I could see being 'large', sure, if at the upper end of it.

Thing is, that 17 km SSD is very narrow and flat. The 3 km Lucrehulk is ROUND and very thick - it's closer than you'd think (and notably, enough bigger than an ISD that I could see it being classified as the next size up).

Perspective is a funny thing on ships different enough in shape like this, but a few folks doing renders on it gives a pretty good idea - the Lucrehulk is really big .
