Should FFG increase the official points limit?

Do you really want to play tourney games with 70 squadrons on the table (Jan, Blount 33 Z-95s x 2)!? That really would be a devastating squad buildout!

Why not? Think of all the TIE fighters.... ? ? ?

Seriously tough. I love bigger games. I like longer games. But yes, I get that at a tourney, time may be restricted. For tourney I'd say 500 is the max you can have and still have a somewhat reasonable experience.

Hmm' really? *checks posts above* yep. Uh. I don't. Up points to 800, increase squadrons as normal. I'm cool with that....lol.

I did say “a lot”, and was careful not to use a term like “all” or even “most”, as it is not universal - but it IS a loud argument where it’s had...

Yea. . . I really dont want 12 hours of games to complete just 3 tournament rounds. I am good but 7 hours in and my brain gets fried

Don't want to bump too hard.. but did anyone ask about a potential points increase at Gencon? @Crabbok

I can totally see this game going up to 500 points with SSDs on the horizon.

To me, 400 points seems like a perfect official points limit. List building always feels like you have to really think about which ships you need, what greatly synergizes with the rest of your fleet and your idea behind it and it forces you to really think about the squadrons, or rather the amount of squadrons, you bring to the battle.

While I can certainly understand Imperial players, as of now, and that's my very own personal impression, it doesn't feel like the claim is "400 points has often proven to not be sufficient, we need to increase the points limit!" but rather like "Darn, we got this huge, expensive new ship out there, can we increase the points limit so we can use it in regular games?".

No, because they already spoke about it with the 2 SSD versions that are above 400 points. Obviously they aren't releasing those exact point costs yet, but it's clear that larger battles are in the future.

Doubt they'll be tournament legal though. I also don't see the official tournament point limit going higher anytime soon considering that the speed of the game is one of people's primary concerns.

I do expect to see 600 point epic tournaments next year. We have already seen 600 point doubles tournaments, so I don't see 600 point format for epic being too off the wall.

I also expect to see some Battle of Endor and Battle of Jaku reenactments. ;)

Well we need the starhawk for Jakku now don’t we?

? ? ?‍♂️ ??‍♀️ ??‍♂️ ?

My usual position. 500 total/150 squad. No weird 134 limit. Gets you up to a comfortable three ISD list if you want, ups a few or add a few small ships to rebels. I guess now we have to add if there's a change for flottilas limits. And I'd say three is fine at that limit.

This would be my preference as well.

Then you could roll your favorite CC fleet built in the campaign into competitive play. That would be sweet!

I changed my mind about increasing the points limit after my first tournament...

Tabled the first guy I played against, but then I lost 3 consecutive games. Enjoyed the time, the organizers actually gave me Raider I, Gallofree, and TIE Intercepter alternative cards in addition to the Hammerhead art despite being last place, and the guys were cool dudes.

Except 3 guys (2 of which slaughtered me by turn 3) had double ISD builds which completely caught me off guard. I don't really want to know what would've happened if they had 100 extra points to work with. ?

What about a ships only mode with a larger range of points say 500-700?

A prior poster mentioned 450, starfighters inclided, and I think that's actually a fantastic idea for the standard game.

Same, that sounds great.

In a 400pt game with only a few ships either side, I have no real problem with the current mechanics of activation order. As the games get larger and more ships are present however, it can feel a bit like some kind of time dilation is in effect when a big cruiser suddenly uses last/first to cover lots of ground.

In our group we've toyed with the idea of a fixed activation order, but never actually tried it out...

In my humble opinion they should increase the standard point limit with another 100 points to 500. However they should reduce the max squadrons percentage to 25% or 125 points. I think this would be a beneficial change in almost all regards. Same amount of squadrons in games but 1-3 extra ships.

Downside is some admirals may need to be rebalanced, though I'm not sure that's needed for only a 100 point increase.
