I see alot of people say they use car primer for the plastic, what are the best ones? I have the models from FFG and some 3D printed pieces from Imperial Terrain.
Best car paint primer to use?
Personally I wouldn't trust any primer that doesn't say "for models" on it.
TBH for plastic it doesn't really matter to much, I've heard great things about the Halfords primers and Hammerite primers but have never tried them myself, I've tried duplicolor and that did the job well enough, but plastic is very forgiving IMHO and doesn't have the same problems metal can have.
YMMV though, here are some other opinions on the matter although not specifically tailored to FFG plastic

I should have said i'm using these for the 3D printed terrain from imperial terrain, not the FFG models. Those I'm using model primer.
I've used Duplicolor and Krylon and they're both about the same. I don't think I have a preference for either and would try just about any brand now.

I use duplicolor filler primer on my 3d printed stuff. For my minis i have great luck with duplicolor primer sealer. The rustoleoum is junk no matter what vararity it is. The tamiya, citadel, army painter etc all work well also.
Have you not had any issues with the paint not curing on the plastic that FFG uses? The standard auto primers I've used for years stay tacky, even after a week. Had to strip and redo. Touch N Tone, Rustoleum, and Krylon have all had issues. Tamiya Superfine primer seems ok-ish...

Ive never had an issue with the duplicolor primers on any of my minis. Ive done almost 3000pts worth of legion stuff so far. Biggest deal is humidity and paint paint dont like each other.
I'll see if I can run some down. I've never had issue with the Touch N Tone on anything else except the FFG IA and Legion stuff. In both cases the paint was still somewhat tacky or squishy feeling over a week later. Guess it doesn't like pvc... The spray I got for car vinyl works great though.
