Why I like Palpatine Commander

By LordCola, in Star Wars: Armada

He might change up the meta in a way that people have been asking for for a while.

With him in the game ECMs might not be an auto-include anymore on almost all ships.

Also he gives options so that XI7s on a ISD or VSD might not be an auto-includes anymore as well.

I see it really shreding Sloane's Aces.

I bit expensive just for that but will have more uses in the same match.

He will hurt TRCs on all single evade ships

Well xi7 can be effective all the turns also in the turn palpa stares at redirect tokens xD

Also he will limit my imperial snipers builds

Tagge and Walex will be stronger than ever

Well for one turn. Not being able to use TRC for one turn is less bad than loosing that brace when you really need it.

Not terribly so. It only will really affect them if they get shot at before they activate. Since it occurs during the spend defense tokens phase, triggering the TRCs won't cause the discard.

Only if you’re encouraging them to defend withbthat Token

Never mind I miss read the card

Yeah, seems specifically there so you don’t synchro with TRCs or even Boarding Teams

I think folks may be oversighting the fact he is a SUPERB squadron bomber commander.

One whole round of not redirecting while getting bombed?!?!

Get dicked Admo.

Well, If Admo was going to be discarding them anyway...

Point is you are forcing a discard. Rather than allowing those tokens to be saved for later.

Also this helps Tie bombers and Rymher make a come back with Papa Palp.

I'm already building a list for how a round 1 punch list with bombers would do.

Post it when you got something. I am very curious!

It’s somwhat counterproductive with my Nose Punch list at least, as basically, do that right and they don’t have the ability to spend tokens anyway ?

Yeah but now even if you dont get first player the nose punch can still wreck face early rounds

Fair, but then you're bringing interdictors and i would like to bring an ISD or an SSD. ?

It's like the Devs saw your list and said, "how can we make that work without interdictors?"

I’d prefer to face one SSD than Double Cymoon

Agreed. At only 3 attacks, and with the side arcs not having any overlap, it's kind of oddly limited in it's overall throw weight. Even with Gunnery teams, it is nowhere near the brute damage dealing capacity of a pair of Cymoons. When I first read it during announcement, I thought they were saying it got 3 sets of attacks a turn, like it was 3 ships... That would make more sense in some ways. The built in turn skip (likely what that additional circle token is for tracking) is helpful, and honestly with it only being 220 or so points base, it is still decent, but 2 cymoons are going to create much more wreckage; they are far more agile, and thus can more effectively keep their front arcs in play. Dual command slots are not really that interesting, although a lot easier to activate given the auto-token generation ability of huge ships.

Anyways, a pair of Cymoons would be overall more expensive, but also dis out more damage, more maneuverable, and can push more squadrons (for Tie swarm mayhem), and importantly can dish out more anti-squadron to slowly melt the inevitable bomber onslaught...

They push the same squadron amount actually with the built in tokens.

Ahhh, yes, that is true!

I think he's amazing. Run Palp with a ton of Arquitens, and now I no longer need to equip Intel Officer - gorgeous. Frees up points for more Arquitens. More and more and more.

Probably put TRC on them and NOW I can use any number of different officers. Maybe run Damage Control Officer so their contain NOW becomes really good.

Every wave makes Arquitens better.

Yes, and ace squads in general. Good vs both sides. Love it.
