Palp looks like a gloryfied Intel Officer. From the wording it looks like you still get the effect of the token, like the IO.

You do. He's a strong effect for sure, got some decent counters - reduces the weakness to ships with redundant tokens that otherwise the SSD would struggle to overheat. CR90's, MC30's, Liberty's, even the omnipresent double redirect.

Also, he works WITH intel officer, so against like a Liberty you can Palpatine the Brace and Intel the redirect forcing them to discard 2 tokens or eat a lot of damage.

Also, Palpatine will love ships with strong double arcs like Gladiators where they can eat a 5 damage front arc and then either take it all, or discard the brace before seeing what the side arc rolls.
