So if you were to make a combat capable, mad scientist who makes a decent face what would you do?
"STAAAAR WARS RIIIIIIICK!"

I don't get it.
Star Wars what?
Rick and morty... If you wantd to play a rick style mad scientist what 3 specs would you use?
Obviously needs decent amounts of Brawn, Agility, Int and Presence. So start with a human, get decently high brawn to start with for extra cyberification. Slap on +1 brawn cybernetics, +1 agility cybernetics and then +1 intelligence cybernetics and slap in a subdermal armour when you're already mucking about in there if there is enough space for it. The aim should be to get a statline of Brawn 4 (he's shown to be rather scrappy) Agility 4 (dude is a good shot and a good pilot) Intellect 7 (because Rick is the smartest SoB in the universe, some dedications might be needed here) Cunning 2 or 3 (he's a pretty cunning guy as well, but does get tricked quite often) Willpower 2 or 3 (he's a stubborn old man but can be convinced to do stuff he doesn't really want to) and Presence 3 or 4 (so he can be a decent face and convince his grandson to tag along with him and smuggle mega seeds).
That's going to require quite a decent bit of XP to get it done, but should be doable if the campaign goes on for long enough. Lets see, career wise I would probably go with Gadgeteer from Bounty Hunter, since he's a rather scrappy old man and builds a lot of weapons, like holy god does he make a lot of weapons and use them at the drop of a hat. Outlaw tech from technician for being better to build those weapons and tinker with them. Finish it out probably with Cyber Tech from technician, since he's quite a cyborg and willing to create abominations.
Skills would be pretty much all over the place, but mechanics, medicine, ranged light and heavy, brawl, melee and coerce would all probably be pretty high. Resilience would be through the **** roof, no other way to explain the amount of drinking and hard drugs he does otherwise. Like that's not your average meth headed alcoholic, that dude is into advanced drinking and drug abuse.
Edited by Darth RevenantHe'll need a cybernetic liver.
I recommend starting with the Technician for the SigAbil that allows you to basically make anything out of nothing.

Nope. I still don't get it.

Unfortunately, I do. At least in the broadest sense.
Well...the fandom’s becoming openly toxic enough to match, so I guess it would work.
What the **** does a toxic fan base have to do with this thread? Or how well "it" would work?
Edited by TheShard24 minutes ago, HappyDaze said:Nope. I still don't get it.
Rick's only real "face" ability would be Coercion, which he uses almost exclusively when it comes to social encounters. He'll want a pretty high Willpower. Fortunately, that scans pretty well to the character.
Beyond that, his only real ability is to construct wildly specific yet robust devices to accomplish his goals. So definitely Technician as his career.
I feel he should have scathing tirade...
Cyberneticist/scientist/agitator
Reflavor incite rebellion as incite partying!
I was responding to HappyDaze not getting it, explaining how and why I did.
I’m aware of the character/show not just from giving it a try and its appeal being lost on me, but from the toxicity of the fan base being so overwhelming that the show’s co-creator has spoken out about it. And, sadly, it appears that a large portion of the Star Wars base is more than happy to follow suit these days.
That increasing similarity would logically make such a merger of concepts more attractive to some.
(I don’t think all fans of the show are those toxic ones, but they seem to be prevalent, and - for better or for worse - they’ve decided that they are the fans’ representatives and their voices overtake others...just as the toxic element of Star Wars fandom has started to be accepted by the general public as the voice of the audience.)

I guess I don't hang out in the right places, or maybe I just don't care enough about what other people think or do as long as they don't try to interfere with me, because I can't say I've really seen any toxicity from either group of fans.
What kind of things are you referring to?

Rick and Morty “fans” engaging in online harassment of women who joined the show’s writers room, and blaming a perceived drop in the show’s quality on those writers’ gender.
Rick and Morty “fans” deliberately insulting anyone they view as “not intellectual enough” to understand all the alleged nuances of the show.
Rick and Morty “fans” trashing McDonald’s locations in an outrage because the fast food chain ran out of a condiment used in a joke on the show when the fast food giant took advantage of the free publicity.
Rick and Morty co-creator Dan Harmon publicly commenting on the toxic nature of a seemingly large portion of the audience.
Star Wars “fans” harassing Kelly Marie Tran to the point she bailed on social media because they didn’t like the character she played.
Star Wars “fans” deliberately insulting one another over differing opinions on a movie.
Various Star Wars creative personnel commenting on the toxic nature of an increasingly vocal element of the audience.
At least Star Wars fans haven’t resorted to petulant property destruction in the name of their alleged love of the franchise (that I know of). Yet.
There are a few examples.

How unfortunate. It makes me glad I don't pay attention to what other people do or think. I love both Rick & Morty and Star Wars, I'd hate to have either ruined because of jagoffs.
Thank you for the info.
Society in general is degenerating.
I don't think star wars or Rick and morty as the subject have much to do with it.

I think that's more a problem with todays polarized society than the shows themselves.
Star Trek had troubles with misoginy and bigotry when the new Discovery series came out, as well as fans "leaving" star trek for Orville in protest.
Doctor Who has had the same type of problems with the newest doctor being female.
I'd bring up more examples, but I can't honestly think of any other decent fandoms out there that are worth a mention...
It's mostly society, not the shows, is my point.
Going back to the point originally at hand, I think the trouble is you'll need to play the long game to get to Rick levels.
The dude has high intellect, cunning, and Willpower, as well as whatever combat benefits he gets from his cybernetics and such, by default he's an endgame character. Tree wise maybe start with which aspect you want to play with the most (Scientist, mechanic/outlaw tech, cybernetics specialist ect) then pick up the side stuff as you go along to build up the concept.

Back in the 60s when the original Star Trek aired the actors and other people involved weren't exactly unaffected by issues of misogyny and racism. Just getting a (forced!) kiss between a black woman and a white man on the screen took massive, career-risking effort by everyone involved.
Back then, it wasn't surprising for black people to get murdered for daring to look white people in the eye, or for people with hoods and torches to show up at someone's doorstep. Saying that today's society is more polarized glosses over this aspect of history.

I don't recall saying that it was a problem with the shows, but with the fanbase(s).
Although I did say that the toxic fandom was one of the ways in which I became familiar with Rick and Morty. (And, sure, I did imply that the nature of the fandom reinforced my, "Nah...I don't get it" reaction to trying to watch the show.)

I would say the civil rights movement forced society to recognize and deal with a problem. Now decades later, that social influence has ebbed and we are seeing a re-polorization of society, we are headed back to those times.
I think fandom becomes a weird adult security blanket thing for some and an excuse to rage at whatever over-generalized cause you think is ruining your world.

Absolutely. However i frequently end up in high level games either because they go long or i join half way through.
I feel he needs these talents... Man he'd work really well in genesys.
Supreme scaithing tirade, contraption, utility belt and careful planning.
So maybe scientist/sapper or mechanic/agitator?

Mechanic agitator would work really well actually, that or enforcer?
To really get a Rick character, you are probably looking at 1000xp minimum. More like 1500 before you're really into it. Plus tons of gear in terms of cybernetic, well, everything.
You're probably talking about an Engineer who has fully maxed out the Mechanic, Saboteur, and Scientist trees. Would also be dabbling in the Agitator, Doctor, Cyber-tech, and Modder trees. Statline is probably, after Cybernetics, Brawn 4(maybe 5), Agility 5, Intellect 6, Cunning 6, Willpower 6, and Presence 2.
Doing all what I imagine he'd have, he'd be roughly an 1800xp character, with more cybernetics than you can technically legally equip.
