Death Star speculation thread

By Shadow345, in Star Wars: Armada

Now that FFG have gone big, the only way they can go is even bigger.

I think the closest precedent for size and scale we can have for the Death Star is the miniatures for the Borg Cube and Deep Space Nine releases for Star Trek Attack Wing.

It's definitely going to have to stretch the limits of the sliding scale, but it could be done. If the model has a large enough diameter its height will make it imposing and large enough over the other models on the board.

Once they give use a Death Star, then we'll be clamoring for a second Death Star (20% BIGGER!!).

Then we'll be complaining until they give us Starkiller Base (330% BIGGER THAN THE DS2!!!).

Then we can get angry that FFG doesn't care about us until we get [BIGGEST BADDEST GLOBULAR SPACE STATION YET THAT IS IN EPISODE IX] (3720% BIGGER THAN STARKILLER BASE!!!!).

Yes, I realize that this is a slippery slope arguement, but I stand by it. I think a game mechanism that allows the use of a Death Star super laser from off-board is a better and more economical solution.

Assault Objective: Death Star Assault:

Setup:The second player picks one corner of game board that is on the same side as their deployment zone.

Special Rule: At the end of every even numbered round, draw line of sight from that corner to any part of an enemy ship's base. Remove that ship from play. Squadrons do not block line of sight for this. Any squadrons traced over are also removed from play.

End of game: If the first player can last until the end of round 6, they win.

I think a sliding scale can only go so far...

Just how I like to see an SSD, going down in flames

Off the board? Don't you mean from the playmat? We have both the DS1 with Yavin playmat and the DS2 playmat, just homebrew the rest. That said, the Death Star for X-Wing would be great, an official mat to run the Trench Run that is.

It's a bit late to claim an exclusive scoop

Psht, you're jumping the gun man.

Supremacy is next.

Though the Death Star would be pretty simple. 400 points, infinite hull, and with the special rules: "During the ship phase choose one ship outside of close range. Destroy that ship. When defending at range 0, if your opponent rolls a [crit], destroy the Death Star."

Circular base. 8 Firing arcs for turbolasers. 8 hull zones with 6 shields each. 44 hull. One special Superlaser attack.

Give it an independent damage deck. With one of the face up damage cards being an Exhaust Port hit and automatically destroyed.

It is actually possible to introduce a death star miniature in true scale to the other ships. A greebled wall that runs along one of the 3 foot edge of the play area. It could even go on the 6 foot edge if you buy two. I made a prototype out of cardboard:

it definitely stretches my limits, but hey, who knows ?

I note he’s wearing an FFG shirt. What’s the story there?

I use these panels from JR Miniatures for Battle of Endor/Yavin custom scenarios (with something of an off-map turbolaser mechanism.) Granted, they're made for X-wing, the Armada bases on the bigger ships won't easily slide across the relief, and....they're pretty pricey - but they look so good.

They're on clearance here at GameKastl e, and they're as cheap as I've ever seen them.

There are a few other configurations left here - just scroll to the end. I absolutely love them.

Ill be happy with Golan Defense Platform/Stations...1-3

Wow! It's a shame the exhaust port panel is sold old, 3 12x12 panels are absolutely perfect for an Armada Death Star. Thanks so much for the link!

I mean, now that the gasoline of rumor has been ignited by the SSD announcement, the sky's the limit for them to cash in on the biggest and most expensive miniatures they can release.

Ugh, you give me a conundrum.

Of course I'm going to run battle of endor scenarios for armada in the future, but my plan was to use the death star II playmat for it. Now you're making me wonder if I should build a DSII wall to really make it impressive!

All we need to confirm this is FFG to release a statement of "Something bigger is coming".

Build the DS wall, and then on round 6 allow rebel fighters to fly into it. Then you switch to an x-wing game on a custom DS interior maze play field.

I mean, the movie basically totally stopped the big ship action once the shield was down and the fighters could get in.

Instead of thinking big perhaps you should think small, you can always use Death Stars miniatures from Rebellion.

In the game play, just pretend Death star is battling from far far away,

Actually, I’ve kinda wanted to work up a mini movement tool and use those figs to create a mini, travel size Armada.

Thats actually a very good idea, you could 3d print the movement tool, maybe the bases as well, what would it be 1/4 size of regular Armada size ?

BUILD! THE! WALL! I'm definitely going to pick up three segments of the plastic terrain posted above to make a nice, 1 foot tall death star wall. It will be a glorious day when the Executor is out.

Epic Armada, instead of going big, it goes small!

Just imagine how glorious a tiny Armada would be, for one simple reason.

For the first time in history, the FFG insert would be sufficient. I wouldn't have to turn it upside down, or cut off half of it, or origami it into a usable form, or use it for kindling, or frame it because I can't bear to throw away a pretty picture of Boba Fett. We could all just...keep it in there.

Holy crap I just read the Armada-Rebellion mini idea and just had a mindgasm. That would be the best thing ever - travel size Armada....... oh man....
