Fan Creations League Stories and Comments

By Avi_dreader, in Fan Creations

[First of all, Julia, check your mailbox before reading this].

Julia, it's great that you won. If you had fun and were challenged with the league, I'm happy. That's all. Kind of disappointed that you won't play a harder version of the league. Sure, it only took me a day to set up, on your request, but, that's life? [This isn't intended to come off as a passive-aggressive comment, I would have liked to have made something else you could like, but if you don't, obviously you shouldn't play it].

I'm aware that a perma-cursed Rex would have had little if any effect on your game :'P your victory was by a large margin. If anything the double speed doom triggers and only 2 item carry over is likely to have a major effect especially mixed with Elder Sign banning (which also would not have made a big difference in how the game went, but slowing down the doom track by two and requiring you to gather another 14 clues would have added game length, and potential tension and strategic complexity). I didn't mean to suggest that I thought you failed to beat the scenario as designed. If anything I feel like I failed in designing it (I should have spent a few more hours thinking things through before posting it). I hoped to correct certain design flaws in the hard mode, but apparently you won't play it, or maybe you will one day when you're itching for another novel challenge.

Ideally, I wanted all the triggers in the final scenario to hit, and for the player to *still* win, alas, you've become too good at the game now for the original design to work as planned, so, I'm a bit saddened by my design failure and will have to try to patch it for the hard mode ;')

Again, congratulations a fourth time [the other three are in email], and thanks for demonstrating what is possible in Arkham Fu. All the monsters of Arkham tremble before Julia now ;') feel free to make that your forum sig ;'D

Avi, I've read your e-mail. And yes, you get it, I'm (was) quite upset. The main point is that possibly something went wrong along the communication challenge. I'm gonna answer this privately and then, if you feel ok with this, I'll post a shorter version on this very thread, visible to everyone.

But anyway, the self-interview was kinda fun ::laughter::

Hi Julia,

You played the 24 scenarios ? Wow, we owe you all our respect... I only played the first and then got distracted by my obsession of getting rid of the gate mechanics.

I do not play arkham so much anymore (... kind of sad...), but who knows what the future will be. Though, I am done (almost) with the Arkham of Madness, the mix between Arkham Horror, Mom and Arkham investigations. We shall see how it goes.

Avi, congratulations for releasing so much arkham work and stories.

best for you two guys.

Thx Amikezor :-) Yeah, I finished all scenarios of the league ::panting:: It was a great experience :-)

I've read in the MoM forum you're almost done with Arkham of Madness. Seems like it could be a lot of fun :-) Is it seriously time demanding?

To play it ? No, like a MoM or an arkham game (more or less).

To create it ? Yes. Very time consuming. Though, I am happy with the result.

::laughter:: yeah, I thought so. Ok then, 3 hours more or less for a game ;-)

Sorry for necro-threading, but the League is still running for any who wants a real Arkham challenge! So I had to up the thread again! In the meantime, I've started the eon for Scenario 22, and sooner or later Avi or I will post the hard version of the Scenarios :-)

I have a group, and we've been playing your league and have gotten to the 8th senario, but now i can't acess the images for the league, could you give me a link or send me the images as my group is great fan.

Love it! Someone else's playing! Hope you're having a good time :-)

You can find all the images for Scenarios 1-21 here ! Let me know if it's ok or in case of any doubts about rules and so on!

Very cool! :'D Julia notified me that you guys picked up the gauntlet. I'm glad you guys are enjoying it (as happy as I was that Julia enjoyed it so much, it was somewhat disappointing that more people didn't get into it).

Any favorite scenarios yet? Any scenarios you guys found difficult? And what did you guys think of scenario 2?

::Laughter:: I'd love to hear some of your memorable war stories.

::laughter:: that's exactly what I meant. This forum lacked of (l)Avish humour (Avesque?)

Any form I'm adjectivized in is good ;') Reading another thread, it occurred to me that the fan creation league should probably get a thread at Board Game Geek.

Yeah, I was about to drop you an e-mail about this, asking if you'd mind in case I open it (I'm registred as Scarlet Witch on BGG). I just wanted to finish the eons so that I could up all the files on their server. In case, mail me ;-)

You should probably have a bigger audience over there (recently I discover people using my Heralds on regular basis in their games, and it was kinda surprising. In a positive sense, clearly)

Sure, sounds good, let's get the Aeons up first. Do you think I should also post the hard mode and the Nyarlathotep version? I may be slow to work on this for the next two or three weeks though. (But what's the rush?)

Let's try the "normal" mode for now, and see the feedback. The demigod version, regardless of the League, was brilliant and should be posted. Many people over BGG play with custom content, and you could have a good feedback :-)

Reupping this for visibility

Ok I finished scenario one of the advanced player league - Sin & Death - last Friday and posted my story and game report on the main page earlier today, here I thought I would offer some feedback on it.

Overall this was a fun scenario to play. I was *extremely* lucky in this game throughout, and I made one mistake with the rules that gave me an advantage, but this demonstrated that even a challenging game like this can be won with luck. It is interesting that luck features very prominently in this game, and can go either way, ruining an easy looking game or making a hard one smooth going. I like this because it keeps things unpredictable.

I used the new DP. I know this was not the intention, but I really did not want to get the old one out of its tomb. I will do that though, if it makes sense. I also did not use the KH board or Mythos cards, but I did use the other components from that set, I also did not bother to ignore the lurker encounters for the Otherworlds or Arkham, perhaps I should cull it too? MH Mythos cards were ignored as I had read that these cads could unbalance play of this scenario. However in the end none of that mattered as I drew only base game Mythos cards until the very end.

Overall I enjoyed the theme, the narrative introduction really helped me to get into the whole game and gave me a fun evening trying to follow the plot.

Dark Pharaoh (old) comes in handy later in the League, where a Scenario was designed on the "Banned from the Neighborhood" mechanics. For other scenarios, it should be ok to use the new one. Avi will confirm this, anyhow
