Best Guesses for Clone Wars Releases

By Animewarsdude, in Star Wars: Legion

So all of this is just based on what we've seen from Legion so far so you know they might surprise us in the same way they did with Boba.

Initial Release:

Republic

- Obi-Wan Kenobi

- Clone Troopers, likely with Z6 and a Rocket Launcher as Heavies

- AT-RT, likely very similar to the Rebel variant if not the same

- TX-130 Saber Tank

CIS

- General Grevious

- B1 Battledroids, likely with

- STAP, maybe like a speeder bike but without the mandatory movement?

- AAT

Second 'Wave'

Republic

- Anakin Skywalker

- Cold Assault Clone Trooper, Galactic Marines, or Phase II Clone Troopers

CIS

- Count Dooku

- B2 Battledroids, likely with the Rocket Arm and the shot gun configuration from the original Battlefront games or a jet pack version that helps make the group more mobile

Third 'Wave'

Republic

- Ahsoka, as an operative

- ARC Troopers, Quad Gun and maybe the rifle from the Republic Commando game or duel weilding blaster pistols.

CIS

- Ventruss, likely as a commander though possibly as an operative

- Droid Commandos,

Forth 'Wave'

Republic

- BARC Speeder Bike

CIS

- Dwarf Spider Droid

Fifth 'Wave'

Republic

- Mace Windu

- Possibly Jet Troopers, though I could see those being thrown in with Plo Koon when he is added

CIS

- Possibly Wat Tambor (due to Ryloth Campaign) or Kalani if Ventruss is a Operative, or if she is a Commander then likely Jango Fett or Cad Bane as an operative

- Droideka, likely with the Sniper Droideka maybe even deep cut into legends with the Mk2

Sixth 'Wave' - Personal Wave

Republic

- Generic Clone Commander, Clone Technician (Clone with receiver pack), FX Series Medical Droid or AZ Medical Droid, R2 Astromech though I guess they could give them a WED droid instead if they didn't want R2 getting mixed up.

CIS

- OOM Battle Droid Commander, B1 Technician (B1 with receiver pack), Medical droid could maybe be the EV series, not positive on their repair droids maybe either a WED or GNK Droid.

I'm not into either of them myself but my nephew is stoked about the CIS.

It's funny to think though that you could have Anakin and Vader facing off against one another. Just for the lulz.

Personally the Empire is my bag, they're the best faction around if my opinion counts for anything.

With that said I'm happy they went this route as opposed to the more recent stuff like the resistance and the first order ... no more Kylo Ren please. Worst. Bad Guy Ever.

Edit

You didn't add Darth Maul? His popularity alone should have him added.

I think clone wars will be more top heavy with vehicles as the setting suits it more. Really excited for some Yoda versus Dooku/Sidious action :)

Your prediction is pretty good. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a Darth Maul show up at some point.

I will be interested to see how they differentiate battle droid units. While the idea of lots of them makes for a good concept, there’s really only three or four types in the show/movies.

Those are some pretty good predictions, though I sort of believe they will go with Yoda before Mace Windu.

I think Darth Maul is a good possibility at some point as well, they released him in IA.

As funny as having a TPM Anakin in a N1 starfighter shoot down Kylo and go 'Whoopie!' in X-Wing? :P

I would expect him to be added, though he never did work for the CIS, and was trying to match people up more or less with thematic groups and keep the pattern that we have gotten so far.

Well lets see, they got B1s, Security Battle Droids, Rocket Battle Droids (jet packs), B1 Grapple Droids, Heavy Battle Droids (Likely fodder for a heavy weapon), BX Commando Droids, B2 Super Battle Droids, B2 Buzzsaw/Chainsaw Droids, B2 Grapple Droids, B2-RP Rocket Pack Droids, Cold Assault Battle Droids, Cortosis Battle Droids, and B3 Ultra Battle Droids to name a few. A few of those are from Legends though a fair number are canon.

Padme better be one of the first 3 commanders, alongside Obi-wan and Anakin!

But there are SO many options! I’m looking forward to it!

She'd probably be cool as an Operative for a covert themed kind of 'wave'.

Here's what I imagine for CIS, essentially matching them to what we've seen for the existing factions:

Three Commanders:
- Count Dooku (probably the initial release commander, but only because both other initial commanders were Force users)

- General Grievous

- Asajj Ventress

One Operative:

- Cad Bane

Two Corps:

- B1 Battledroids

- B2 Super Battledroids

Two Special Forces

- BX Commando Droids (essentially as the parallel to Rebel Commandos and Scout Troopers)

- IG-100 MagnaGuard Droids (melee focused special forces likely with the same Entourage rule for General Grievous as Palpatine gets for the Royal Guard)

Two Support:

- B1 Battledroids on STAPs (to match the 74-Z speeder bikes and AT-RT)

- Droideka (Destroyer Droids) (I hesitated on this until I realized they would be perfect as Emplacement Troopers - essentially Emplacement Troopers generally follow trooper rules but have larger bases and use vehicle movement rules, which seems like a perfect way to do the Droideka on medium bases)

One Heavy:

- AAT

One Specialists Pack:

- T-Series Tactical Droid (as the officer mini that can also function as a generic commander)

- Three others, TBD

I've been giving this a lot of thought lately and my list isn't that much different from Animewarsdude's above. However, most of these aren't huge leaps.

In a military game like Legion, I'm not really sure we'll see Maul. He assuredly wasn't a Separatist - Obi-Wan cut him in half about a decade before the Separatists actually existed as such (when Dooku led the some planets to leave the Republic).

Also, the introduction of Clone Wars opens up the possibility of Hondo as a completely neutral operative who could join any of the four factions...

I had originally planned to have Magnaguards there but due to how I structured it with Obi-Wan and him is why I didn't have them there, and well the me putting Droideka in the Special Forces group rather than the Support. Honestly, they probably do work better as a support/emplacement unit instead.

Maybe the Rebel counterpart could be the Clone Assassins, that or I guess they could instead make them Paratroopers to just play up movement instead of melee attacks if they didn't want to pull from something that was a bit obscure.

I could see them ending up using Maul for the sole sake of the CIS not having tons of options as far as commanders go. Would be cool to see Durge though.

And as for Hondo, definitely he is just great.

I would like to see Buzz droids and Vulture droids. Possibly with some way for them to work together.

The CIS might be a little thin on Commanders, but in addition the ones I listed above, I imagine we could see some of the other Separatist leadership (Nute Gunray, Wat Tambor, Poggle the Lesser), or even Whorm Loathsome (I hope not).

In addition to Cad Bane and Jango Fett (who is cool but likely too similar to Boba Fett), some of the other bounty hunters are possible as operatives, particularly Morallo Eval, Aurra Sing, or Zam Wesell.

Honestly, if I were just picking things based on my favorites, I would want Admiral Trench as a Commander and Pong Krell as an operative (probably with command cards specialized in disrupting the enemy's courage or ability to issue commands).

Three versions of the Millenium Falcon in X-Wing suggest to me that FFG wouldn’t worry to much about that similarity...

A Vulture Droid in walking mode could work as a Heavy (and would be awesome, I love the form factor and the walking Vulture Droid is a favorite mini of mine from the WotC Star Wars minis game), but an OG-9 Homing Spider Droid seems more likely if they wanted to give CIS a walker type unit. I'm sure we'll get the Buzz Droids and Vulture Droids in X-Wing though.

Granted all three do have different roles of sorts. The Scum one being weaker but playing with control stuff like stress and interplay with the escape craft. The Rebel one is heavier and hits harder and has Lando to play to the faction's teamwork mechanic. The Resistance one seems to want to play up firing from its front arc, and sucks at rotating its turret. And that isn't taking into consideration the movement dials as the Scum Falcon is better at speed 1 maneuvers while the Rebel one is more at home with speed 2 ones.

Can you imagine how much Buzz droids could abuse cover, though at the same time it would sort of be cool if they were clinging to rocks or the like on their bases like spiders.

I wonder if we might see Colicoids, the designers of the B1s and Droidekas added to the CIS.

Or this obscure droid.

how has no one mentioned Rex and Cody

Cause we're all fanboying over battledroids.

Rex and Cody are great choices for Republic Commanders but the Republic is absolutely spoiled for choice in that regard. Between the various Jedi, Clone Commanders, Senators, "decent" bounty hunters (mostly Sugi, maybe Embo), and even Jar Jar (I just gagged a little typing that), they could make twenty Commander/Operative characters for the Republic before they even had to stretch.

Rex is already in the game, of course. :)

My picks for top commanders for the Republic are: Obi-Wan, Anakin, Rex, and Cody.

Operatives: Ahsoka and Hondo

Commanders for the Separatists: Count Dooku, General Grievous

Operatives: Ventress, and Cad Bane

For CIS I'd really love to see Dirge as one really expensive but beastly operative.

There are so many and different kinds of droids they could do and then there's all the fun vehicles.

Also due to my love of the Tartakovsky Clone Wars I'd hold off on Grievous and release him with the Magna Guard.

Boba was an obvious choice, for clone wars era we have some similar gimmes:

Obi-wan, Anakin, Mace, Yoda

Clone troopers, maybe their gunship, definitely their walkers

Grievous, Dooku, whatever that bug guy who designed the Death Star was called, maybe the sith characters from clone wars. Probably Jango Fett as an operative.

Droids as corps, Droidekas as support, those Tripod walkers as heavies, and the super battle droids for special forces.

Edit: Just like with current meta, I’m guessing they’ll adhere to the movies until all the major characters are implemented.

For the republic at-rt im hoping for a unit of 2 at-rts with 1 higher health/resilience for 120 points with 2 hardpoint upgrades 1 for each mini

The thing is, most stuff would be slightly too big to fit well on the board. Clone wars would work for a slightly smaller scale
