I don't think so since normally when you fail a boost or barrel roll you don't move your ship anywhere, whereas Arvel just partially completes his. Might end up as Errata shortly after release.

No. A failed action is rolled back to before it took place. Arvel's isn't.

I’m not sure why you wouldn’t just focus first, then use the a-wings ability to try the boost.

I think the plan is something like Lock -> failed Boost -> Composure Focus. You end up with Lock+Focus and no stress.
